About the Society The Egypt Exploration Society is the leading UK organisation for archaeological fieldwork and research in Egypt and has an international membership of professional Egyptologists and interested members of the public. The Society is a registered charity and is funded principally by members’ subscriptions and donations. The Society maintains London and Cairo offices and organizes events for members and the general public throughout the UK, in Egypt and elsewhere. The London Office houses an extensive library and its archive of excavation records dating back to the late nineteenth century. It is also used to host smaller educational and social events. The Cairo Office houses a small members’ library located within the British Council buildings, which is also the venue for our Cairo events. The Society’s current research strategy focuses on landscape development, environmental change and human interaction in the Nile Delta and Valley, including the Sudan. The current research projects range from excavation at major Delta sites, surveying the ancient capital of Memphis and mapping the changing river course at ancient Thebes, to text‐based and archive research. The Society works closely with the Egyptian Ministry of State for Antiquities (MSA) and is currently engaging with international partners to support and fund excavations and surveys at many other sites. We are fully committed to advancing knowledge and public awareness of the history and cultures of Egypt and its neighbouring countries (to AD 1900) and achieve this through our programme of publications and other educational activities.
