MT. SOMERS SPRINGBURN SCHOOL Mt. Somers Springburn School is a rural school set in the foothills of Mid Canterbury at the mouth of the Ashburton Gorge. The school’s five classrooms and administration area have been almost completely refurbished in the past four years, and it also has an adventure playground area, a large playing field, a tennis/netball court, and a squash court in the grounds. Our school draws pupils from a wide area surrounding Mt. Somers and Springburn and receives close parental and community support. Mt. Somers is the gateway to o recreational lakes (boating and fishing) in the Ashburton Gorge high country o Mount Sunday where part of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy was filmed o Rivers, walkways and bush reserves, and is close to Mt Hutt Skifield The area is rich in history and renowned for its mineral resources and geological uniqueness. The school is part of the Mid Canterbury network of schools and as part of this group, schools interact for sporting and cultural events.
