JOB TITLE: Psychologist LOCATION: Oxford, with some travel across the Thames Valley GRADE: AFC band 7 equivalent HOURS: 22.2 per week RESPONSIBLE TO: Chloe Purcell, Project Manager 1. Purpose of the Job 1.1 To develop and provide a high quality specialist therapeutic group work service for young people who have been victims of sexual abuse. 1.2 To work with the Project Manager to enhance current services for victims of sexual abuse provided by the organisation. 1.3 To provide consultation and advice about psychological issues to other members of the team/service and other professionals working with service users. 2. Main Tasks 2.1 To formulate and implement plans to run a programme of therapeutic group work sessions to young victims of sexual abuse. 2.2 To carry out specialist psychological assessments of young people referred to the service. 2.3 To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options for service users. 2.4 To undertake risk assessment, formulation and management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment, formulation and management, in order to contribute to effective and therapeutic management of risk. 2.5 To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to SAFE! staff and project workers providing services to all victims of sexual abuse. 2.6 To ensure that all members of the team have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding and care of clients of the service, through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory. 2.7 To complete the development of bespoke practical exercises and contribute to researching and writing a book of guidance for professionals working with young victims of sexual abuse. 2.8 To deliver training to a range of SAFE! Project staff and Project Workers, as well as other professionals in the field. 2.9 To work closely with multi-agency partners to ensure clear referral pathways and integration of services for young victims of sexual abuse. 2.10 To consult widely with agencies offering services to young victims locally and nationally, and disseminate good practice. 2.11 To utilise research skills to undertake service evaluation, audit and research as appropriate and disseminate the results in the service and nationally. 2.12 To meet regularly with and report to the Project Manager and SAFE! Board of Trustees. 2.13 To contribute to an annual conference to share learning and best practice across the region. 2.14 To contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the Project. 2.15 To assist the Project Manager in providing material for end of grant funding, and other reports. 2.16 To maintain and promulgate the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance in accordance with professional code of practice of the British Psychological Society and SAFE! policies and procedures. 2.17 To attend training in line with continuing professional development as required, and to receive regular clinical supervision. 2.18 To carry out all duties in accordance with relevant SAFE! procedures and guidance, including in relation to Safeguarding Children, Data Protection, Health & Safety and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role and the overall business objectives of the organisation. Person Specification - Psychologist 1. Qualifications Essential Post-graduate level training in applied psychology (e.g. clinical / counselling psychology) (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPC) 2. Knowledge/Experience Essential Experience of specialist psychological working (assessment, formulation and treatment) with children and young people, in a range of settings. Experience and/or training in CBT Experience of facilitating training and supervision. Knowledge of guidance and legislation in relation to young people. Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS Desirable Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care Experience of working with young victims of sexual abuse. Knowledge and understanding of Protective Behaviours. Experience of research and writing practice guidance 3. Skills Essential Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
