Articulation with the Skill Centers
The Maricopa Community Colleges have articulation agreements with the Maricopa Skill Center
and the Southwest Skill Center in limited areas of study. Students who have participated in
these agreements may be granted credit for prior learning. No fees will be assessed for credits
awarded under the agreements established with the Skill Centers. The terms under the
agreements include:





Articulated credit will only be granted to students who took the identified course and/or
program when an official articulation agreement is in place between the Skill Center and the
Maricopa Community College.
The student must meet all admission requirements at Maricopa to receive the articulated
credit.
In order to receive credit, a student must request the articulated credit and have official
documentation of program completion sent directly from the Skill Center to the Office of
Admissions and Records at the selected college(s).
The Maricopa Community Colleges will post articulated credit on the transcript. Articulated
credit does not affect a student's college grade point average, but will be included in
accumulated college hours attempted and earned. The articulated credit will be
transcripted as “AR” (Articulated Credit) on the transcript.
Articulated program credit is transferable within the Maricopa Community Colleges, but is
not necessarily transferable to other colleges or universities.
Process to Establish an Agreement with the Skill Centers
1. Contact the Director of Transfer and Academic Partnerships at the District Office to
determine whether there is a similar articulation agreement already in place.
2. If there is no agreement in place, interested individuals should begin the course and/or
programmatic alignment by contacting the participating Maricopa college(s) to start the
inquiry process.
3. Once a contact person has been identified and mutual interest has been established, the
initiator should complete the online form and attached supporting documentation (e.g.
course syllabus, program information, etc.). Optimally, the review will result in an
agreement to accept the course(s) and/or program(s) as articulated credit(s).
4. Once a draft of the proposed course/programmatic alignment has been completed, it
should be sent to the Director of Transfer and Academic Partnerships for review. He or she
will review the proposed alignment and either contact the initiator for suggested revisions
or forward it to the applicable Instructional Council(s) for review and endorsement.
5. Once revisions are complete and the agreement is approved by the applicable Instructional
Council(s), the agreement will be sent to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost and the
director at the Skill Center for approval and signatures.
6. One original signed agreement is retained by the District’s Center for Curriculum and
Transfer Articulation and one is retained by the Skill Center. Copies of the agreement will
be sent to the Admissions and Records Office at all ten Maricopa Community Colleges for
their records.
7. There will be an annual review. During the review, if there are any curriculum changes at
the Maricopa colleges and/or the Skill Center(s), the instructional staff or faculty will notify
the Center for Curriculum and Transfer Articulation so an updated evaluation can be
conducted.
8. Information about this Agreement will be included in the college catalog, websites, and in
relevant publications.
