Passing
Hot Tip
Passare è la capacità di spostare la palla da un giocatore ad un altro senza essere
intercettata dall’avversario. Il gioco non può continuare se il passaggio non è fatto in
modo corretto. La palla può essere passata: IN AVANTI - LATERALMENTE - IN
DIAGONALE - ALL’INDIETRO.
The game cannot go on without passing. Passing is the ability to move the ball:
FORWARDS - SQUARE - DIAGONALLY - BACKWARDS, depending on the aim of
the pass.
You can pass with the inside, the instep, the outside, the heel of your feet. You can
pass the ball even using your head, chest or thighs.
The passing may be performed with one, two or three touches. If the amount of
touches is limited to one or two the play will flow successfully provided that the
players do not hold on to the ball but they control it, pass and move, being aware of
the team mate’s movement.
The accuracy of passing, quick
feet and quick decision-making
are
qualities/skills/abilities that enable the players to build up a successful sequence of
passes.
Drill
Preparation: Cone up four/five squares 15x15 m. each one.
Players: Four/five groups of 4 players plus a defending player.
The four players start passing the ball to each other in similar fashion to our Torello
(Keeping Possession).
The defending player tries to upset the rhythm, the accuracy and weight of their
passing, snapping at the passing player’s heels.
You may limit the touches to one or two and when one of the “attackers” loses
possession he becomes the defender.

Few players in the history of football have combined quality and quantity the
way Del Piero has. Nineteen seasons at Juventus, Italy most popular club,
created his legend. In Turin he had two nicknames: Pinturicchio and Godot,
given to him by the “Avvocato” Gianni Agnelli, the patriarch of Juventus and
FIAT. Two weeks ago he played an electric game with his new team, Sydney
FC, in the Australian League scoring four goals.
Alex Del Piero delighted his new fans at Allianz Stadium in the match against
Wellington Phoenix, scoring a stunning hat-trick in the first half and adding another
brilliant goal after half-time.
The 38-year-old notched four goals in a match for the first time in his brilliant career.
''I felt free in my mind today, for sure,'' said Del Piero, who now has nine goals for the
season.” It's a day from the heavens because when you score four, for sure it's a
great day. I'm really happy, not only for the four goals but because we played very
good from the first minute.''
Del Piero had a strong supporting cast, with new signing Joel Griffiths delivering the
opening goal and a fine display on debut.
The performance moved Sydney to the cusp of the top six as it registered back-toback wins for only the second time this season.
Both Del Piero and the boss Frank Farina hoped the performance could give a great
boost for making a run at the finals.
''We'll enjoy tonight, but it's three points, let's be realistic,'' Farina said.
''Next week we go to Melbourne so unless we continue to play like that and continue
to fight and work hard, it means nothing.''
Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert branded the performance of his team ''totally
unacceptable''.
''That's the most disappointing performance by a team that I've had at the football
club,'' Herbert said.
Sydney side exploded to five-goal lead inside 39 minutes.
Griffiths opened the scoring in the 11th minute when he combined brilliantly with Del
Piero, but from there, Del Piero stole the show.
He was allowed too much time and space in the box in the 21st minute when he coolly
steered the ball past Mark Paston and had his brace two minutes later.
There was more than a touch of fortune as Andrew Durante fouled Jason Culina inside
the box and Del Piero made no mistake with the penalty.
Culina scored a goal of his own in the 26th minute before Del Piero then wrapped up a
hat-trick inside 18 minutes, unleashing a powerful, curling shot from the top of the
box.
Del Piero grabbed his fourth in the 65th minute, tormenting Durante with some fancy
footwork before unleashing another pin-point finish.
Wellington's Ben Sigmund bagged a consolation goal in the 79th minute but it could
not prevent its worst ever loss.
Yairo Yau scored in the 84th minute, moments after Del Piero had been substituted
off to a great ovation.
