Purpose of the New Role:
The role will be to act as the dedicated business development link between academics,
industry, and funding bodies including Innovate UK, in the new EPSRC-funded UK Quantum
Technology Hub for Sensors and Metrology. The post will be based at the University of
Nottingham. The Hub is a consortium of six UK Universities who will work with many industry
partners to translate research in cold-atom/ion physics and quantum electronics into new
technological applications and commercial sensor devices. These devices include high-precision
quantum sensors of magnetic and gravitational fields, acceleration, and timing. We envisage
applications in several sectors including biomedical imaging, geophysical survey, materials
analysis, security, navigation, and signal-free timing. The Partnerships and Business
Development Manager will play a key role in expanding industry collaborations, which will be
crucial for building the supply chain for sensor components, producing prototypes of the
sensors themselves, and establishing a market of end users. The role will also be responsible
for the Partnerships, Business and Research Support Team within the School of Physics and
Astronomy at Nottingham and include the development of funding applications.

Identify, promote and develop opportunities and funding bids for
interdisciplinary translational research activity between industry and academic
research in Quantum Technologies.
Work in partnership with colleagues in Quantum Technologies, both in
Nottingham and Birmingham.
Identify new opportunities for research exploitation, covering a range of
knowledge and technology transfer activities, working in association with the
School BDE, BEIS’ Technology Transfer Office, Knowledge Transfer and
Partnerships teams.
Identify and manage own professional development needs.
Represent the university at regional, national and international events, and
respond to relevant external enquiries.
Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role and level.

 Relevant Ph.D in Physical Sciences
or Engineering or Postgraduate
qualification in Business or

petrochemicals and minerals,
geophysical survey, electronics,
navigation, security,
manufacturing.
 Research culture in Higher
Education.
 Intellectual property (IP)

 Excellent oral and written
