Aboriginal Justice
Program
The MCPEI Aboriginal Justice Program (AJP)
began in 2003 and works to create an
environment that allows Aboriginal people to selfadminister justice by building a traditional justice
system based on holistic community values. The
purpose of the program is to develop and maintain
sustainable justice support system for all
Aboriginal people involved in the PEI Justice
System. The program focuses on the process of
helping offenders, victims, and communities get to
the root of the issues that led to the crime(s) being
committed.


YCD is a not-for-profit youth group for Stratford
youth between grades 5 and 12. The initiative began
in 1999 and our focus is to provide a safe drop-in
centre for youth with plenty of supervised
programming and volunteer activities in and around
their town.
Best Start Program
Best Start is a voluntary in-home visiting program
that identifies and provides services to families who
face challenges and can benefit from additional
support. The program has two components. Public
health nurses screen all newborns and their families
across the Island within two weeks of their birth and,
for those who are eligible, highly skilled Best Start
workers are able to follow the child and the familiy
for a three year period.
Families participating in the Best Start Program may
be experiencing a variety of social, health, economic
and educational challenges. Parent receive help
in areas such as, physical care of the child, nutrition,
infant stimulation, breastfeeding, child development
and parent-child activities.

Child Care Subsidy
Program
Mi'kmaq Family PRIDE
Program
The Child Care Subsidy Program covers all or part of
the cost of child care in licensed child care centres,
nursery programs, Early Years Centres, family
daycare homes, and before-and-after-school
programs. The subsidy rate varies, depending on the
size of the family, age of children and the
household's income.
A family support and prevention program that is
offered by The Mi'kmaq Confederacy of PEI to
children, youth and families who live on reserve.
Services include; in-home support, groups, one-onone for children and youth and family group
conferencing.


Disabilities
The Department of Community Services and Seniors
partners with a number of non-government
organizations that extend a variety of services to
people with disabilities, including vocational and
employment training, transportation, recreation, and
residential services.
Disability Support Program
Responds to the unique needs of persons with
disabilities and their families. Assists qualifying
individuals with disabilities to increase independence
and develop a support plan that meets disabilityspecific needs.
Camp Gencheff
Camp Gencheff is a year-round facility providing a
respite care program two weekends a month in the
off-season. The program provides a safe weekend of
enrichment for participants while family members
benefit by having time to regenerate energy for their
care-taking duties.
Canadian Deaf Blind and Rubella Association
The CDBRA is committed to assisting all persons
who are deafblind to achieve the very best quality of
life.
Canadian National Institute for the Blind
CNIB is a nation-wide, community-based registered
charity committed to research, public education, and
vision health for all Canadians. It provides the
services and the support necessary for individuals to
enjoy a good quality of life regardless of vision loss.
Canadians have access to rehabilitation, counselling
and training, innovative consumer products, peer
support, and one of the world's largest libraries for
people with print disabilities.
Canadian Paraplegic Association
The CPA provides individual and family support for
those afflicted by spinal cord injury and mobility
impairment.

governed by a volunteer board and servicing
intellectually-challenged persons in the Summerside
area. The service offers a residential program as well
as vocational alternative services and employment
supports in the community.
Community Inclusions
Community Inclusions is a not for profit communitybased organization which provides a range of
residential, vocational, recreational and employment
related services to persons with intellectual
challenges in Western PEI. The organization is
governed by a nine person volunteer board of
directors.
Harbourview Training Centre
Harbourview Training Centre is a community-based
organization located in Souris, PEI and is governed
by a volunteer board. It provides a range of
alternative vocational and employment services and
supports to intellectually challenged persons.
Inclusions East Inc.
Inclusions East Inc. is a non-profit organization that
provides comprehensive services for people with
intellectual and physical disabilities. Inclusions East
Inc. has five divisions and they are the Kingswood
Centre, Employment Opportunities, Southern
Kings Group Home, Alternative Residential Options
and Community Supports.
Life Bridges
Life Bridges is a non-profit organization providing
independent apartments with minimal supports to
adults who have an intellectual disability. It currently
provides housing for up to 12 adults.
Pat and the Elephant
Pat and the Elephant provides a specialized
transportation system for persons of all ages with
disabilities in Charlottetown and the surrounding
areas. The organization uses wheelchair accessible
vans and service is available seven days a week.
P.E.I. Association for Community Living
PEIACL promotes inclusions for people with
intellectual disabilities and assists parents and
educators in the development of the Individual
Education Plan and Individual Vocational Plan. It
also lends toys, books and games for children who
have special needs. It directs people to appropriate
services and assists in developing parent support
groups. The organization is non-profit and is
operated by a volunteer board.
P.E.I. Citizens' Advocacy
Citizens' Advocacy is a community-based
organization that promotes the integration of
individuals with intellectual challenges into the social
fabric of our communities.
P.E.I. Council of People with Disabilities
The Council of People with Disabilities' mission
statement is to improve the status of persons with
disabilities through full participation and inclusion in
society. The Council is a voluntary, non-profit and
non-government organization which is incorporated
as a registered charity. It also now includes the P.E.I.
Education Coalition which is a province-wide
summer program for children with disabilities who
would otherwise lose school and literacy skills over
the summer.
Queens County Residential Services
QCRS is a community not-for-profit organization
that is governed by a volunteer board. It provides a
range of residential supports to persons with
intellectual disabilities. Residential support services
can be provided through their various group homes in
the community. The organization also provides a
range of day program services with the goal of
supporting the client to participate and thrive in their
community.
Souris Group Home Association
Souris Group Home Association is a community nonprofit organization located in Souris and governed by
a volunteer board. The association provides
residential services and supports to intellectually
challenged adult men.
Stars for Life
Stars for Life is a non-profit organization providing
and community supports to adults who are diagnosed
with Autism Spectrum Disorder. They strive to assist
adults living with Autism Spectrum Disorder to reach
their full potential.
Transportation West
Transportation West provides transportation for
people with disabilities of all ages. It provides
wheelchair accessible vans and is available by
appointment.
Tremploy
Tremploy is a centre in Charlottetown that is devoted
to the reintegration of adults with intellectual
disabilities to the world of cooperative work.
Tremploy provides employment outreach and inhouse employment opportunities for persons with
intellectual disabilities as well as a broad range of
day programs and vocational services. It is operated
by a volunteer board.

place where children and youth can experience new
opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive
relationships and develop confidence and life skills.
Catholic Family Services Bureau
The Catholic Family Services Bureau provides
professional consultation on relationship issues. It
offers individual and group counselling services to
parents with children who are experiencing marital

child(ren), or problems with child custody
arrangements. This agency now provides group
treatment programs for children and youth exposed to
domestic violence in their homes as well as play
therapy, a specialized counselling service for young
children.

Family Service PEI is a new agency which represents
the amalgamation of the former Prince County
Family Services Bureau and Community Services
Bureau P.E.I. It offers individual, family, marital,
child management and credit counseling, as well as
educational programs.
Girl Guides of Canada
Girl Guides of Canada makes a positive difference in
the lives of girls and women. It is an organization
that enables girls to be confident, resourceful and
courageous, and to make a difference in the world.
P.E.I. Family Violence Prevention Services
P.E.I. Family Violence Prevention Services is a
community-based organization that provides shelter
to abused women and their children. It also provides
community outreach services to people experiencing
family violence in their homes. In addition, this
organization promotes public education and
prevention.
P.E.I. Federation of Foster Families
The Federation of Foster Families represents foster
families across PEI and provides support as well as
training and educational opportunities.
P.E.I. Rape and Sexual Assault Centre
The Rape and Sexual Assault Centre provides
support for victims of sexual assault and abuse and
community education and prevention.
Salvation Army Home Heating Program
The Salvation Army Home Heating Program
supports low-income Island families with their
heating costs in emergency situations.
Scouts Canada - PEI Chapter
Scouts Canada contributes to the education of young
people to help build a better world where people are
self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive
role in society.

The Department of Community Services and Seniors
partners with non-government organizations that
extend services to seniors.
Le Comité bel âge
Le Comité bel âge is a service club for Francophone
seniors in the Evangeline Region of Prince Edward
Island. It was founded in 1995. The main objective of
Le Comité is to "try and make life enjoyable for all
seniors of the area" with special emphasis on seniors
who live in community care facilities and seniors
homes. Their service also targets seniors who are
living alone in isolation and who need community
support.
P.E.I. Seniors' College
P.E.I. Seniors' College is a non-profit organization
promoting life-long learning, focusing on individuals
50 years of age and older. Seniors' College provides a
realistic and inexpensive opportunity to keep learning
new skills and ideas in a comfortable environment
where they meet a range of interesting and interested
fellow learners.
P.E.I. Senior Citizens' Federation
The Senior Citizens' Federation is a provincial nongovernment organization which includes individuals
and approximately 39 seniors clubs as members. The
Federation acts as a voice for seniors and advocates
for a better quality of life on their behalf. It was
founded in 1971 and was incorporated in 1993. Their


work includes promoting the 55 Alive Driving
courses, organizing membership meetings, and
publishing The Voice for Island Seniors. They also
support the Friendly Visitors Program, an initiative
designed to reduce social isolation.

PEI Community Schools
Association
Over 2500 Islanders attend community schools
programming each winter and fall across the
province. Courses such as guitar, arts, crafts,
introductory computer, and many more are offered to
all Islanders. PEI Community Schools have been in
existence for over 45 years and depend on volunteers
to plan, organize and deliver programs of interest to
all age groups.

