A thorough knowledge of the role and relationship of the laser’s wavelength, power, and temporal modes is key in obtaining the desired outcomes. This hands-on training course is designed to enhance the hygienist’s knowledge and understanding of the proper techniques, functions and value that a high-powered soft tissue diode laser brings to their patient care. Attendees will learn about laser physics and safety, how the laser interacts with tissue, infection control and the workflow required to attain optimal outcomes. Ergonomics, referral pathways, reimbursement considerations and proper insurance submittal will also be reviewed. Hands-on activities include the use of a diode laser on porcine tissue and other materials to learn the various soft tissue procedures that are routinely performed by a dental hygienist. A comprehensive discussion of the techniques is combined with exercises performing laser assisted periodontal care utilizing Pocket Debridement Laser Therapy (PDLT). At the End of This Workshop, Attendees Should Have & Understand: The patient benefits of dental lasers. An introductory knowledge of laser physics. Sufficient knowledge on how to set and control the parameters of a diode laser. Laser safety & infection control considerations. How to perform periodontal Pocket Debridement Laser Therapy (PDLT). The relationship of Pocket Debridement Laser Therapy (PDLT) & Locally Delivered Antimicrobials (LDA). Guidelines for documentation of laser treatment Guidelines dental insurance submission for laser therapy About the Instructor: Scott D. Benjamin, D.D.S.
