You will advise 1-to-1 and teach a range of introductory courses at Undergraduate and Masters level across the university, addressing mainly students with a Humanities/Arts/Social Sciences profile. You will need to be educated at Postgraduate level and studying for a PhD in Humanities or Social Sciences, with a strong interest in the academic writing component of your research. This role provides two different rates of pay: 1. The teaching and preparation rate is currently £29.91 per hour. The number of hours will vary depending on how the student year evolves (typically, most teaching hours will be in Term 1, around 10 hours, fewest in term 3). This role is addressed to late stage PhD students. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide a 1:1 advisory service for undergraduate students covering basic aspects of academic writing (namely assignment planning, structure, style, grammar, referencing, presentation, narrative coherence and clarity), in a drop-in session format (weekend scheduling may, at times, be necessary) Hold tutorials and teach Introductions to Academic Writing for UG and Masters level students (mainly Arts and Humanities), in lecture and seminar/workshop format. Undertake all the necessary preparation activities required and, in particular, ensure that content, methods of delivery and learning materials will meet the students’ defined learning objectives, as well as those of the Programme Provide a referral / ambassadorial service to/for the other areas of the Academic Writing programme where appropriate. This may include attending student meeting around the University, talking to departments, recommending further reading, resources, workshops or services Utilise, promote and demonstrate the WAW (Warwick Academic Writing) E-learning Resource for the benefit of students, as well as faculty Act as online adviser on the Writing E-line (which provides Academic Writing advice via email) when appropriate To monitor attendance and implement impact and evaluation measures as set out by the department Undertake a brief written evaluation of each session taught, in accordance with the Centre’s impact and evaluation criteria Final Undertake the necessary administrative tasks relating to the sessions taught (e.g. attendance records, etc.) Attend and prepare for tutor meetings as required.
