Explain the difficulties that developing nations experience as they try to break the poverty cycle. As you complete your research on each of these topics, keep these essay topics in mind as yourself and other students will need to be gathering information that helps to provide evidence to answer these questions. RESEARCH STAGE Two classes will be dedicated to your group researching and putting together your presentation. It may be necessary to meet outside of class as well. Divide the work load evenly and make sure to communicate with one another regularly to avoid duplicating work. In your research include the following about your topic: (i) background information which focuses on who, what, when, where, why and how as related to your topic (ii) the impact on the local and global level (iii) current trends, solutions as related to your topic ORGANIZATION STAGE Presentation will be done in a carousel format, so you need to create a clear, organized power point presentation that addresses the main points of your topic. Your powerpoint can include a short clip, charts, graphs and other visuals beyond the main written information. There should be at least one additional source of media (some form of visual or clip) beyond the actual powerpoint. Your final slide should provide sources for your research in MLA format. Your presentation needs to also include an information-gathering sheet. Make sure the sheet is clearly laid out with a straightforward means of gathering key information. It can be a chart, a fill- in-the-blank, a question and answer – the format is up to you. This must be emailed to me the day prior to the start of presentations so that I can photocopy them for the class. Presentations should be 10-15 minutes in length, so make sure to do a practice run to ensure that everything works and that the presentation can be worked through realistically in 15 minutes. Presentations will be assessed, so they will be emailed to me as an attachment on the day the carousel begins. All presentations will be running at the same time so they are all due on the same day – no extensions, no matter the reason. THE CAROUSEL The carousel will be completed over two days. Each presentation will be set up on a Macbook computer for both days of the carousel. Presentations must be saved to a USB drive and brought to class – do not save to email or google drive and rely on the internet. Groups will rotate through four presentations each class, with some time at the end to organize notes and go back to check on missing details. On the second day, groups will rotate through the final four presentations. You should also go through your own presentation so that you have all the information you need to do well on the assessment. At the end of two days, each student should have had an opportunity to carousel through each presentation once and gather the necessary information. Over the two days of the carousel, you should be working on fitting the information gathered into essay outlines for the given topics that can be used as study guides. ASSESSMENT In addition to a mark being given to your powerpoint presentation, one of the essay topics listed in this project will be drawn in the class after the carousel concludes. Students will have one hour to write a response to the essay and it will be assessed using the 6-point essay rubric from the provincial exam. Assessment rubrics for both the presentation and the essay will be handed out in the second research block. RESEARCH BLOCK 1: RESEARCH BLOCK 2: INFORMATION GATHERING SHEET EMAILED TO MS.
