The tournament began under a light rain which turned to steady rain and then
ultimately the rain stopped about 6-holes into the day for most players. Scores reflected
the unfriendly weather condition to start the day but in all we did have 77 players brave
the rain and it was a tremendous testament to the dedication the players on the Fox
Cities Golf Tour possess. As the tour director I am extremely impressed and humbled by
all of you that committed to play and showed up on Sunday. Thank you all very much
and let’s hope we don’t have to endure this type of weather anymore during the rest of
the 2015 FCGT schedule. For those of you that remember the famous Jim Mora NFL
press conference from years ago, this tournament was all about “playoffs?!”
Championship Flight (0-4 handicap) – Apparently Alex Marchand didn’t mind the
rain to start his round recording three birdies in his first 6-holes and he was 2-under par
when the rain stopped. Marchand continued to go low getting to 3-under after his
twelfth-hole but then had a bogey and double bogey in his final six holes to finish with a
72 (E); a very impressive round of golf. Marchand had four birdies on the day while the
rest of the Championship Flight combined for only seven birdies. Surprisingly nobody
else broke 80 and we had a 4-way playoff for 2nd place with a score of 80. Jason Hill was
victorious in the playoff and Humberto Rodriguez held off Justin Gestout and Mike
Morkin to take home 3rd place prize money. Lou Zwicky and Chad LaFever returned to
the FCGT and it was nice to see Michael Morzenti back for the summer from Chicago.

Nicklaus Flight (5-8) – Making his FCGT debut, Mike Kuehl couldn’t have thought a
9-over round of 81 was going to be good enough to win but he was happy to be crowned
the winner at RSP. Kuehl played a steady round of golf with mostly pars and bogeys but
he also had one birdie on the day to win by four. Another playoff was needed to decide
2nd and 3rd place prize money. Paul Schwarz and Mitch Steudel beat out Tim Ver Voort
to take home 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Wyatt Benz returned to the FCGT along with
Eric Hjortness and Bill Rhyme made his FCGT debut along with champion Kuehl.

Palmer Flight (9-11 hdp) – Playoff was the theme of the tournament with Allan
Dreblow and Kokomoss needing three extra holes to decide the champion of Palmer
Flight. It was a different story for each player. Kokomoss was 7-over after his first 6holes while Dreblow was only 5-over with 3-holes remaining. Kokomoss played his final
12-holes at only 2-over par and Dreblow was 4-over on his final 3-holes. This was
Dreblow’s 2nd tournament on the FCGT and his first victory. This was the debut for
Kokomoss and I’m sure we will be seeing him in the winner’s circle soon enough! It was
also the debut for Jake Smith ad James Koetting. Joe Sarnowski making his
2nd appearance on tour finished in 3rd with a solid round of 83.

Player Flight (12-14) – Wes Bucholz is becoming the target of Player Flight. He has a
1st, T1st (2nd), and now another 1st. Bucholz narrowly won a very close Player Flight and
edged out Nick Schreiter and Conor O’Hagan by just one stroke. O’Hagan was awarded
2nd while Schreiter (placing for his 3rd consecutive tournament) was awarded 3rd. Tour
stalwart Brian Berg and FCGT rookie Jim Hasz finished only one back of O’Hagan and
Schreiter. Mr. Steve Cheney and Joey Mullaney made their tour debut and there were a
lot of players returning to the FCGT including Kopp, Weninger, Mrs. Zwicky, and Jay
Stephan.

Watson Flight (15+ hdp) – If you need a new mattress, head over to Verlo and talk to
Andy Fredrick; the newly crowned champion of the Watson Flight. I bet he got a ‘good
night’s sleep’ on Saturday which helped him secure his first FCGT victory and it was
much overdue as Fredrick has been a mainstay on the tour from the beginning. John
May continued his solid play on tour this year finishing 2-back and taking home
2nd place honors; while FCGT newcomer Bill Grinde was just off the pace and finished
3rd.

Hogan Flight (16+ hdp & 55+ (Age)) – It took Kyle Roble a couple of tournaments
this season but he has broken through to earn his first FCGT title. Roble had to earn it
however because he and Mike Wilquet tied for the title and had to play a 3-hole playoff
to decide the champion. There was also a playoff needed for 3rd place between Len
Gestout and Herman Gandt. The two men had played together all-day so they each knew
what the other could do and Gestout came out ahead and took home 3rd place prize
money. Tom Rohde made his FCGT debut and is excited to play again at Chaska on the
28th.
