POSITION OBJECTIVE – Describe general objectives. Include the purpose of the position, expected outcomes and results, and overview of areas of accountability. Provide leadership in the design and implementation using best practice strategies to appropriately identify students for preschool services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Describe each of the basic functions and responsibilities of the job. Develop and grow collaborative relationships with families, school based teams, public agencies other members within Student Services and Denver Public Schools. Cultivate awareness among school leaders and special education team members that a core function of DPS Special Education is to support the growth of skills to appropriately serving the needs of students at the school level. Application and knowledge of effective instructional practices and data driven decision making focused on increasing student outcomes Provide counsel and assistance to special education team members on a broad range of special education topics including Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), Least Restrictive Environment (LRE), Parent Engagement and Procedural Safeguards, and Individualized Education Planning (IEP). Collaborate with other special education school partners, and other departments within student services, to implement special education policies that strengthen the ability of schools to improve outcomes for students with disabilities; Collaboration with local Community Center Board (CCB) to coordinate smooth transitions for families and students into the public schools. Plan and facilitate professional development with the Preschool Support Partner for Early Childhood Services. Training and support for IEP development and implementation in the preschool setting Provide leadership and supervision to Child Find Team members. Development and implementation of research based practices for Early Childhood Identification processes that include considerations for diverse populations. Assignment of students to appropriate classroom settings. Frequent participation in departmental meetings. Participation in Division and Department meetings and group committees. 1|P a g e Execute the goals and objectives of the Denver Public School District, Division of Students Services, and Department of Special Education. Utilize accountability processes to promote continuous district improvement. Other duties as assigned. LICENSURE & CERTIFICATION – Include licensure and certification requirements, if applicable. Degree in Special Education or Related Services Certification as a Special Education Teacher with Early Childhood Endorsement and Certification in School Administration (or in the process of obtaining) Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license and must be able to provide own transportation and meet district insurability standards. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Describe the minimum education and experience required for the job. Experience working in a K-12 public school environment with Early Childhood Special Education Service Delivery Experience with the appropriate identification of students with disabilities Experience working with diverse populations. KNOWLEDGE & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS – Describe specific knowledge and qualifications required for the job. Ability to work as a team member with a collaborative work style Robust problem solving skills and the ability to act decisively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Frequent travel across the district is required. Bilingual in Spanish highly desired.
