7 days a week, including weekends and public holidays.
Position Overview
This position is directly supervised by the Residential Manager and will make up the Snr Residential
Services team.
The key responsibilities:
Undertake day to day operational tasks within student accommodation at the Bloomfield St campus,
as directed by the Residential Manager.
This position supervisors and monitors the Casual Residential workers.
In the absence of the Residential Manager, the position will be responsible to manage the day to day
operations of the Residential Services, this includes the 7 day Roster. There is an expectation that
this position will act on High Duties when the Residential Manager is away for more that 5 days.
Normal Working Hours during School/Tertiary holidays.
Detailed Statement of Duties
1
Coordinate the general welfare of students whilst on campus with the Residential Manager.

Provide information to students; regarding Institute procedures and operations, including
orientation to campus facilities. In consultation with the Residential Manager, review and update the
Residential Information Booklet.

Liaise with catering services in relation to student numbers, movements and special dietary
requirements.

Liaise with the Student Travel Department regarding student travel arrangements and changes.
Inform students as required.

Allocate appropriate rooms to students on arrival consistent with allocation needs and
requirement. Ensuring that the accommodation Register is maintained.

Coordinate with other Residential staff, student arrivals and departures from Travel Companies,
e.g., airport and bus terminals. Also the drop off Student/s, as required to; health, Centre link, welfare
or childcare facilities.

Coordinate the Transportation of students to and from the Desert Peoples Centre as per BI Bus
Procedure.

Coordinate the booking of Academic request or Bus usage.

Report to the Residential Manager of maintenance needs for accommodation, grounds and
recreational rooms.
10 Regularly inspect the Recreation room to ensure that all is well, report any faults to Residential
Manager.
11 Maintain the key register of the accommodation facility when keys are distributed to students.
Conduct 6 monthly keys audits and report any issues to the Residential Manager.
12 Daily check Security Reports of any issue/s during the night. Report any problems/issues to the
Residential Manager. Conduct Security Procedures each shift.
13 Liaise with Residential Manager and Student Liaison regarding complaints, student welfare and
student needs.
14 Maintain the Data entry of all student travel details and produce; arrival sheets, departure sheets
and classroom list of all current students on campus.
15 Maintain a cooperative working relationship with other Institute staff, ensuring services are being
delivered effectively and appropriately to meet student needs.
16 Participate in special campus events, such as graduation ceremonies, conferences and
community events, as directed by the Residential Manager.
17 As per BIITE Vehicles Procedure: maintain the Residential vehicles ensuring that they are kept
clean and tidy at all times. That they are fueled, and under bonnet checks are regular conducted.
18 In coordination with the Cleaners assist with Bi-Annual detail clean of the Residential Complex.
As per procedure.
19 Undertake other duties relevant to the level of this position as directed by the Residential
Manager.
Essential Selection Criteria
1
Demonstrated capacity to work within the social, political and cultural environments of Indigenous
Australian communities and organizations.
2
Demonstrate skills and experience to work as a member of a small multi-disciplinary team and
independently, taking personal initiative appropriate to the level of responsibility.
3
Good level of communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with
Indigenous people from whom English is not a first language.
4
Previous experience in conflict resolution, problem solving with good consultative skills and ability
to assess when referral is necessary.
5
Ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion, an ability to organize, priorities and utilize time
management skills with a flexible attitude and ability to adapt to a changing environment.

Demonstrated ability to use computers, including word processing and databases.
7
Northern Territory LR (or equivalent) endorsed manual driver’s license.
8
Current Ochre Card and Current First Aid Certificate
Desirable Selection Criteria
1
Previous experience in working in the residential and accommodation aspects of the hospitality
industry.
2
Experience in the areas of: Mental Health and Suicide Intervention.
3
Previous experience in Cross Cultural Awareness, preferably in an Aboriginal Context.
4
Aware of physical disabilities of disadvantaged adults as well as Language Numeracy and
Literacy.
