GALLIPOLI 2015 NEWSLETTER – JULY 2014

Welcome to the second Gallipoli 2015 newsletter for those who were successful in the New

Zealand ballot. In this issue we will answer more questions that we have been asked by those who were successful in the ballot. We will also provide any important updates and information that you will need to know before Anzac Day 2015.

Gallipoli 2015 Overnight Programme

The planned overnight reflective programme for Anzac Day 2015 at Gallipoli will contain documentaries, performances and live historical commentary. The programme is currently being developed and promises to be both informative and interesting. There will be specially commissioned film pieces, as well as specially commissioned music, which will be played live by both the Australian and New Zealand Defence Force Bands. Space at the Dawn Service

Site is very limited; however there will be a small number of food vendors, as well as portable toilets, on site.

Scalping of Attendance Passes

There has recently been some press coverage regarding concerns about the risk of attendance passes being scalped on online auction sites such as TradeMe and eBay. There are strong measures in place which will ensure that attendance passes to the Anzac Day commemorations in Gallipoli next year can not be scalped. Each attendance pass will be printed with the pass holder’s name and passport details. At the entrance to the

Commemorative Site on 24 April your attendance pass will be matched with your passport before you are permitted to enter the Commemorative Site. Anyone whose attendance pass does not match the passport they have with them will be denied entry to the Commemorative

Site.

Declining Attendance Passes

If you are no longer able to attend the Anzac Day commemorations at Gallipoli next year, you will need to decline your attendance passes. To do this, log in to your online account using your username and password. When you log in you will be given the option to accept or decline the attendance passes offered to you. Click “decline” and the passes will be cancelled and re-issued to the next person on the wait list. If you have already accepted your attendance passes, only to find yourself now unable to attend, email us and we will inform

Ticketek, who will cancel your passes and re-issue them to the next person on the wait list.

Forgotten Username/Password Details

If you have forgotten your username and/or password, and cannot log in to your account, here are some solutions. Check the email you would have received on 31 March informing you of your success in the ballot. Your username is included in the body of the email in the section where it informs you how to update your details in your account. If you cannot remember your password, you can use your username to retrieve it using the “forgotten password” link on the log in page of our web site . If you have forgotten your username and password, and have deleted your notification email, send us an email with your customer ID

(if you have it) and other details that can help us identify you, for example address and date of birth. We can then retrieve your username, so that you can retrieve your password using the above method.

Passport Renewal

If your passport, and/or the passport of your accompanying person, expires prior to April

2015, or within six months of returning to New Zealand in 2015, you need to renew it as soon as possible. Passports should be renewed before the 25 October deadline for providing travel details and the 25 November deadline for providing details of your accompanying person. This is extremely important, because your attendance passes will be printed after the cut off dates with your passport number on them. This is to prevent scalping and to ensure those whose names and details are on the attendance passes are actually those who present themselves at the Gallipoli Peninsula on 24 April. Passport renewal is done via the

Department of Internal Affairs, and all costs incurred with passport renewal are to be met by the individual.

Prohibited Items on the Gallipoli Peninsula

One of the most important things to think about when planning your trip to Gallipoli is what you can and cannot bring with you onto the Commemorative Sites. The following items are prohibited from the Anzac Commemorative Site and Chunuk Bair: large flags, advertising or marketing messages, chairs, umbrellas, knives, fireworks, smoke canisters, air-horns, weapons, dangerous or hazardous items, laser devices, glass vessels, cans, poles, or any item that might be used as a weapon or compromise public safety. Smoking and alcohol are also prohibited. You will go through security screening at the entry to the Commemorative

Sites and if you are carrying any of the above items, they will be taken away and disposed of by the Turkish authorities. Similarly, if you arrive at the Peninsula and are drunk, you will be denied entry until you have sobered up.

3

Being Prepared for the Conditions

Seating is limited at the Commemorative Services and there is no allocated seating. This means you may end up standing for some hours. You can also expect to stand in queues for the portable toilets and food vendors. Because the site will be filled to capacity, conditions overnight will be cramped, with people unable to stretch out on the grass as has been in the case in other years. Space will be monitored to ensure people are making room for others.

It is important to make sure that you are prepared for whatever conditions we experience overnight – it is often very cold, and there is no shelter if it rains.
