Major Changes The following are the minor changes between version 2.1 and version 2.2. 1) The format of the document has been change to reflect current government corporate identity guidelines. 2) The title of the document has been changed from ‘Guidance Notes for The Sampling and Analysis of Produced Water and Other Hydrocarbon Discharges’ to Methodology for the Sampling and Analysis of Produced Water and Other Hydrocarbon Discharges’. All references to the previous title of the document have been removed throughout. 3) References to ‘The Offshore Petroleum Activities (Oil Pollution Prevention and Control) Regulations 2005 (OPPC)’ have been changed to ‘The Offshore Petroleum Activities (Oil Pollution Prevention and Control) Regulations 2005 (OPPC) (as amended 2011)’ 4) References to various standards have been updated to reflect the most current version (Section 1.2); IP 426:98(04) replaced with IP 426:98(12) ISO 5667-3:03 replaced with ISO 5667-3:12 5) DECC website address has been updated throughout the document. 6) Point of contact changed to David MacDonald (Section 2) 7) References to the previous permitting regime have been removed throughout the document and replaced with the appropriate term; References to ‘OPPC permits’ have been replaced with ‘Oil discharge permits’ All references to permit ‘schedules’ removed 8) Produced water sampling requirements for unmanned installations discharging >2 tonnes of dispersed oil to sea per annum has been clarified (section 4.2 (b)) 9) Wording regarding produced water sampling requirements for installations injecting / re-injecting produced water has been aligned with oil discharge permit conditions. (Section 4.4) 10) Wording regarding batch wise produced water discharge water has been aligned with oil discharge permit conditions. (Section 4.5) 11) Wording regarding produced water sampling requirements for displacement water discharges has been aligned with oil discharge permit conditions. (Section 4.6) 12) An additional section has been added to align with oil discharge permit conditions regarding additional sampling requirements at the time PON1 / PDN reporting requirements are reached (section 4.7) 13) The requirement that the results of cross checks of IR thermometers be recorded in the oil in water log book have been relaxed to allow recording in any auditable document. (Section 5.7 (f)) 14) To align with EEMS reporting requirements, references to ‘Alkyl Phenol’ analysis have been replaced with ‘phenols / alkyl phenols’ analysis throughout the document. 15) Section 11.5.4 has been altered to make it explicitly clear that C0-C3 phenols content should be determined, the previous version made reference to C1-C3 phenols only.
