Chief resident for Academics at University of Missouri Columbia 2010-11. This
position was created for the first time in the program considering the interest I had
in teaching. There have been three Academic chief residents since my graduation.
Worked as a liaison between department of clinical psychiatry, the coding and
billing personnel to create template for admission notes and increased billing
substantially in the inpatient psychiatry service.
Worked as a liaison between the department of clinical psychiatry and the
electronic medical records to create templates for progress notes and initial
evaluation notes, which is used by several providers in the department of
psychiatry and streamlined the workflow. This was substantially helpful and well
ahead of time before implementation of Dragon dictation system. Multiple
providers- residents and attendings used these templates in conjunction with
Dragon to improve billing and efficiency.

Teaching:





I was part of the team for running the IPC block 6 for second year medical
students to introduce them to the field of psychiatry. I ran a group of 8 students
for 2 hours every week for 8 weeks and I was involved in their assessment in the
mid-block and end of the block evaluations. I also gave a lecture about
“Personality disorders” to the whole class of about 120 students.
Nominated as the Chief resident for Academics for the first time in the program
for the academic year 2010-2011.
Morning report for night-float residents and other PGY 1 and 2 residents to
review the cases seen by residents the previous night and supervise the care
transition from night shift to morning teams.
I have developed didactic series for PGY 1 and PGY 2 residents in the program at
University of Missouri-Columbia in 2009. This has been a success and requested
for by residents. This didactic session started with quarterly session and
progressively increased over the last few times with currently 12 sessions each
year.
I have presented a lecture on “Personality disorder” for second year medical
students every year since 2010. This has been a very popular lecture and has been
rated by he participants higher than the average for the IPC lectures.
Academic experience:





As the administrative chief resident, worked in association with the clerkship
director for medical students at University of Missouri Health Care, to improve
the medical student’s clerkships in 2009-2010.
Nominated as the Chief resident for Academics for the first time in the program
for the academic year 2010-2011. I was involved in scheduling the didactics for
resident physicians and medical students in Psychiatry. As the academic chief, I
was able to introduce new didactic sessions for both students and residents
Completed an elective at the Division of Neuro-stimulation of the Harvard
University under the observation of Dr. Darin Dougherty who was division
director. I observed delivery of ECT, TMA and DBS.
I participated as a panellist in the PsychSIGN Residency Panel at Honolulu,
Hawaii. The panel members were answering various questions and concerns of
students present in the meeting regarding residency and beyond.
I was nominated by the Dean of the Medical School to be part of a delegation as
part of an award winning international initiative from the University of MissouriColumbia- Global Scholars Program 2013-14 to India. I was part of the delegation
which visited some of the esteem institutes of India and signed a Memorandum of
Understanding in Chennai, India.

Research:
1. Worked as a clinical research coordinator in clinical drug trials for psychiatric
medications at Victoria Hospitals in Bangalore from December 2005 to June
2006. My responsibilities included randomizing patients, helping principal
investigators, dispensing the medications and coordinating site visits.
2. Principal investigator in a quality control project assessing medical emergencies
on inpatient psychiatric unit currently in the data collection phase.
Inventions:
1. With Sriram Chellapan: A Smartphone app for screening and treatment of
depression, which was patented in September 2013. I own 60% of this intellectual
property. This app was selected as one out of about 90 ideas submitted as
inventions for further development by the Living Lab of Tiger Institute, Columbia
MO. Tiger institute is a joint venture of CERNER and University of MissouriColumbia to promote inventions from faculty members towards
commercialization. The tiger institute will invest for development of the idea and
commercialization.

Clinical Experience:
1. I am currently working as an Assistant professor of psychiatry at University of
Missouri Columbia since July 2011. I am responsible for 23-bed adult psychiatric
inpatient unit along with another psychiatrist. I provide inpatient psychiatric
clinical care following admission up to discharge. It includes patients admitted
voluntarily and involuntarily. I have testified in multiple civil commitment
proceedings. I also supervise and provide
2. I have worked as a consultant through tele-psychiatry for the student health center
at Rolla, Missouri from September 2012 to June 2013.
3. I have worked as a consultant for a psychiatric clinic at Joplin, Missouri through
tele-psychiatry from November 2013 till present
4. Successfully completed a 4 year accredited psychiatry program. During my first
and second years I was an inpatient resident and I rotated through adult
psychiatry, child and adolescent, forensic, addiction, geriatric, psychosomatic,
internal medicine and neurology. I attended court and testified about 7-10 times. I
was doing calls for total of 20 months and I did 2 months of night float. During
my third year I was assigned to outpatient clinics where I managed the
medications of patients under supervision for one year. I also worked in
community clinics for one half day a week which was more autonomous. As a
fourth year resident I worked in various locations.
5. I have worked as a junior resident in Psychiatry at St John’s hospital in Bangalore
for 4 months from July 2006 to October 2006. I had to perform intake evaluations
and also practice outpatient psychiatry under supervision of staff psychiatrists.
Volunteer Experience:

National Pulse Polio Program: Medical student volunteer- Successfully
generated awareness about polio. Organized camps to facilitate large scale immunization
of children.

Rural Health and Family Welfare: Health Officer- Adopted a poor rural family
of eight members. Helped in their proper health and well-being. Effectively contributed
in improving their quality of life by teaching them the importance of maintaining proper
hygiene & preventive care.
Hobbies and Interests:
I like playing tennis, racquetball, swimming, listening to music and travelling. I love
