OVERVIEW
Student organizations at Krannert can be an important experience in addition to academics by
providing opportunities to learn and grow leadership and teamwork skills. By becoming an
active member of a Krannert chartered organization(s), students develop themselves as the young
professionals that recruiters look to employ: poised and well groomed young people with
excellent leadership communications skills, a sense of ethical responsibility, and good decision
making experience.
This handbook is to be used as an addendum to Purdue’s Student Activities Office Handbook,
available online at www.purdue.edu/ODOS/sao/studenthandbook/handbook.htm. The SAO
office is in room 250 Schleman Hall.
This handbook is to help leaders of Krannert’s student organizations comprehend and work
through the policies and procedures specific to Krannert.
Support for Krannert Chartered Student Organizations is available through the Career Services
Office.

Marketing Student Events
Is your organization hosting an event (Callouts, company presentations, guest speakers etc…) that is of
interest to the Krannert student population? If so, here are ways that you can publicize the event in
Krannert and around campus. A newsletter is sent out weekly with updates and information for students.
Send all of your important updates to keep students informed of all of your activities. Additionally,
Krannert/Purdue is now using CoolSign to display digital media in Krannert/Rawls and across campus.
The displays will allow you to broadcast callouts and other events to the student body easily and
effectively. These event notices can be text based, fully designed slides with images, and/or even short
videos broadcasting group information.

CASE COMPETITIONS
Involvement in Krannert Case Competitions are supervised by the Director of the Undergraduate
Management Communications Center. This office is Krannert 160.
Case competitions are an excellent way for students to build and demonstrate their problemsolving skills. They are also an outstanding way for recruiters to see students in action. As a
result, case competitions are often held at Krannert, sometimes under the direction of a club and
with sponsorship by a company.
Any club requesting funding from a corporate donor for a case competition should follow
procedures outlined for any solicitation of financial support. It is particularly important that the
Development Office be aware of such requests so that their staff can assist students and
coordinate requests to donors.
If monetary prizes are awarded by the club, procedures are in place with the Krannert Business
Office to pay by check or direct deposit. Business Office staff will be happy to help facilitate the
payment process, and appropriate forms must be completed before prize payments can be made.
Club representatives must take responsibility for coordinating with the Business Office early and
assuring that a faculty or staff advisor gathers the necessary documents for payment.
The following guidelines can help the faculty or staff advisor with the process for paying
prizes:
1. Security of forms is critical: The required form for payment is called a “Payee
Certification Form.” This form requires legally protected information, including a Social
Security Number. Therefore, federal law requires that completed forms be kept in a
secure location. Students cannot collect the completed forms. A faculty or staff advisor
involved with the competition must collect the required forms from the winning students,
or the forms can be collected from all participants in advance. In either case, the forms
must be stored in a secure location—locked—while they are in the advisor’s possession.
2. The required forms are:
a. Payee Certification Form. Found at:
http://www.purdue.edu/taxes/xls/Form_PC.xls. This is the only form required for
domestic students.
b. Case Competition Awards are taxable.
1) International students will need to provide immigration documents to
process all payments.
2) International Students receiving an award will need to be added to
Purdue’s GLACIER system before payment for awards can be
processed. Contact the Business Manager for help and up-to-date
information about the GLACIER system process.
3. For the Business Office:
a. Take the completed forms to the Business Manager for processing. The Business
Office is in 137 Krannert.
b. Provide the Business Office with a spreadsheet listing the names of students and
their awards. For a template of this form, see either the Business Manager or the
Director of the Communication Center.
c. The business office will retain copies of the necessary forms and the spreadsheet
for auditing purposes.
