18 September: Fun Palaces

When we breathe, what happens to the air we expel? Have you ever wondered what it looks like?
Visual artist Jayne Wilton comes to the Arts at the Old Fire Station, on Saturday 3 October to run a
visual art workshop exploring the act of breathing.
The event is part of Fun Palaces, a nationwide celebration which brings art and science together,
Participants can try some alternative drawing techniques that Jane uses to create her pieces, and
practice traditional still life techniques drawing a blown glass bubble. Jayne’s work explores the act of
breathing through the medium of installations, drawings, videos and sculptures.
Fun Palaces are about creating and making together: they are a space where arts and sciences, fun
and learning meet, working alongside and working together. The core principles are that each Fun
Palace is free, local, innovative, transformative and engaging.
The workshop is for anyone aged 10+.

About Fun Palaces
Fun Palaces is an annual, free, nationwide celebration of arts and culture, driven by localism,
innovation and engagement, with a core passion to encourage communities to create by and for
themselves. Fun Palaces shouts, sings, shimmies, stomps from the rooftops: arts and sciences, all culture,
is a crucial part of human life, and they are truly glorious.
Inspired by theatre director Joan Littlewood and architect Cedric Price’s never-built vision of the Fun
Palace; one venue for all arts and sciences, engaging and welcoming for all, Fun Palaces sees Makers
across the UK and worldwide creating their own ‘pop-up’ Fun Palaces.
