What is marked?

 Student’s work is marked regularly by teachers with an aim to balance pupil, peer and selfassessment where appropriate.

 Poor presentation is to be challenged by teachers in the form of a written comment.

 Student notes will not be marked.

KS3:

 Marking will reflect positive outcomes (WWW) but will also provide specific advice for improvement (EBI)

 The department uses a range of assessment methods to measure progress and identify targets for improvement. This includes formal assessments, peer and self-assessment (using green pen) and regular marking of classwork and homework.

 The departmental marking sheet will be used at least once a term to mark class/homework. In addition, the WWW and EBI stamp will be used on pieces that require specific feedback.

 Staff will develop the generic comments on the marking sheet by using a * system to tailor the advice to the student.

 Homework will be set once a week at KS3.

 Formal assessments will occur in line with the assessment weeks and will be set out in GCSE format and marked using a departmental mark scheme for the next lesson. All RE staff will use the same assessment to ensure consistency.

 All assessment grades are recorded on data sheets and saved on R-Drive. They inform planning, reporting and interventions. The Head of RE will monitor these.

 In addition, staff will keep their own records of assessments to aid planning for their groups.

 Students will be given time at the start of lessons where marking is handed back to read through comments and to respond to the advice or task provided as a result. They will all produce their own targets/comments for improvement.

 Parents are kept informed of good work and progress, as well as poor performance and a consistent lack of homework, for example.

 The department will use the stickers on a lesson-to-lesson basis and will discuss students to be sent postcards home to during department meetings.

 Literacy will be marked for in formal assessments using the whole-school literacy code and incorrect spellings of key terminology will be corrected.
