First Lady Mattie Travis
First Lady Mattie M. Travis is a native of Sparta, Georgia. She is the first born of five children to
Martha Ingram and the late Tommie Ingram. She graduated with honors from Hancock Central
High School in 1972, and later received a certificate in nursing. She was employed at Hancock
Memorial Hospital as a nursery nurse. While her husband was in the United States Army, the
Lord saved both Pastor and First Lady Travis in Nuremburg, Germany. They both worked
diligently for 5 years in their church at the time, Holy Temple.
First Lady Travis served on the usher board, taught as a youth Sunday school teacher, social
missionary President, prayer team, altar worker, and member of the pastor’s first aid
committee. When Pastor Travis was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas, First Lady Travis assisted her
husband in establishing The Living Water Church. Many military families attended the services
and were saved. She traveled with her husband during most of his military career.
The Army moved them to three different cities within the state of Indiana. She labored
faithfully in the churches they attended while stationed in those cities. In 1996 the Good News
Church was established in Lawrence, Indiana. First Lady Travis is the lovely and devoted wife of
Elder Drayton Travis, Pastor of the Good News Church. They have been married for 37 years.
First Lady Mattie Travis and her husband are the proud parents of two daughters, one son, and one-daughter-in-law. They are the proud grandparents
of five grandchildren. Their family serves faithfully within the ministry. Along with First Lady Travis, the Good News Church members are a strong,
supportive foundation of the mission of the church and the vision of the Pastor. First Lady Travis is a visionary. She recognized that quality of life and
future economic health is determined by the quality of care given to our children today. By faith her encouraging and supportive husband assisted her
in starting the Good Shepherd Daycare Ministry. The motto is “We Love Children.” The daycare serves children from the ages of newborn to 13 years
old. First Lady Travis earned her Development Associate Credential and is the director of the daycare.
First Lady Travis is blessed of God to labor in so many capacities within the church. She is a church mother, senior missionary president,
Ministers’/Deacons’ wives president, lifetime member and president of the Womens’ Council, and the Indiana Diocese Missionary President. She is a
part of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Inc (COOLJC) organization.
In closing, one thing First Lady Travis desires of the Lord is that she will seek after that she may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of her life, to
behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.
