ABC Order – Write your basic and
review words in alphabetical order.
(A to Z)
18. Story Words – Write a short story
using 15 of your spelling words.
Underline the spelling words in the
story.

Practice Makes Perfect – Write your
basic words neatly three times
each.
10. Ransom Words – Write your basic
words by cutting out letters in a
newspaper or magazine and
gluing them to your paper beside
the word written in print.

Reversed Words – Write your basic
and review words in ABC orderbackwards! (Z to A)

Rainbow Words – Write all your
words with vowels in one color and
consonants in another color.

Picture Words – Write your basic
and review words and draw an
illustration for each word.

Technology Words – Type and print
your entire word list. Each word
must be in a different font.
Triangle or Stair Words – Write your
basic words adding one letter at a
time. The result will be triangle or
stair shaped words. (See example
below.)

Choo Choo Words – Write your
basic words in print connecting all
the words. Write each word in a
different color.

Practice Test – Ask a friend or
relative to give you a mock spelling
test. Write any words that are
spelled incorrectly 5 times each.

11. Magazine Words – Use an old
magazine or newspaper, and find
your basic words. Cut them out
and glue to your paper beside the
words written in print.
12. Part of Speech – Write your basic
words in print, and the part of
speech beside each. You may use
a dictionary.
13. Syllable Spelling – Write your basic
words in print, then separate
according to the syllables. You
may use a dictionary. Ex.: Contract
14. Word Search – Make, print, and
complete a word search on
www.puzzlemaker.com.
15. Definitions – Write 10 of your
spelling words and their definitions.
19. Fraction Spelling – Write your basic
and review words as a fraction.

20. Secret Agent Words – Write a code
for each letter of the alphabet.
Write each word in print, then in
code. Ex.: A=1; B=2, etc. mild = 139-12-4 (This sheet is found in the
classroom and on our website.)
21. Spelling Word Value – See how
much money your spelling words
are worth. (This sheet is found in
our classroom and on our website.)
22. Telephone Words – Write your basic
words in print, and then translate
and write your words into numbers
from a telephone keypad. (See
keypad below for reference.)
16. Poem Spelling – Write a poem
using at least 5 of your spelling
words.
23. Sentence Building – Write
sentences with your basic words.
Include at least 7 words in each
sentence. Underline your spelling
words.
17. Letter Words – Write a letter to a
friend using at least 15 of your
spelling words.
24. Crossword – Make, print, and
complete a crossword puzzle using
www.puzzlemaker.com.
25. Caption Words – Cut out a picture
from a newspaper or a magazine
and use your spelling words to write
a story about your picture.
Each assignment must be labeled with its title, number, and point value.
