ROBERT M. TINSTMAN FELLOWSHIP
SELECTION PROCESS
Select one of two selection options:

Option 1 – UWT coordinates the search for Tinstman Fellow candidates from local colleges and
universities on behalf of the local United Way. UWT will accept applications from interested students
during a specific time period, and the most outstanding candidates will be forwarded to your office to be
interviewed. You will make the final decision. For Selection Option 1, UWT will provide a $750 match for
the Fellow’s $1,500 stipend, and the local United Way will be required to contribute the remaining $750.

Option 2 – UWT grants the entire $1,500 stipend amount to the local United Way host. In return, the
host takes full responsibility in recruiting and selecting a Fellow. Once the intern is selected, UWT will
provide the Fellowship funds.
Three Tinstman Fellowships will be granted from the application pool each semester. Priority will be granted
applications through the following criteria:
1. Local United Ways that meet the requirements and are applying for the first time to receive a Tinstman
Fellow
2. Local United Ways which did not receive a Tinstman Fellow the previous semester;
3. Local United Ways that did receive a Tinstman Fellow the previous semester but have a different subject
area for the fellow to work in.
4. All previous end-of-fellowship reports for both host and fellow must have been received by UWT.
HOST UNITED WAY COMMITMENT
Local United Ways that are UWT members are eligible to request a Fellow in 2013 for a fall university semester.
Participating United Ways will be required to:
 Identify a Fellow for Fall 2013 (under selection Option 2)
 Assist with locating local housing, if necessary
 Assist with arranging for course credit from the Fellow’s college or university
 Submit reports as requested by United Ways of Texas
By submitting this application, I verify that our United Way is committed to meeting these program requirements.
