PURPOSE OF JOB
The Inspiring Futures Foundation (IFF) is a not for profit educational charity that has been providing careers
services to young people for the last seventy years. With its headquarters in Camberley in Surrey, it operates a
regional network with teams of guidance professionals in Scotland, the North, the South West and Wales, the
East of England and in London and the South East. Services are also delivered in the EU and internationally.
The changing landscape is providing a significant challenge to the future of careers guidance services to young
people. The new environment is increasing the demand for IFF’s services as schools work to secure independent
careers guidance from a range of providers. As a longstanding and leading provider of school-based support
across the UK and internationally (under the ISCO and Futurewise brands to independent schools and through the
Inspire careers service to publicly funded institutions) the mission of Inspiring Futures is to deliver effective and
high quality guidance to all young people. IFF holds the matrix standard for quality guidance and advice.
The primary focus of the role will be to represent Inspiring Futures to all schools and other relevant organisations
in the designated region and, under the day to day management of the appropriate Regional Director, to deliver
guidance services to member schools, parents and students. There will also be opportunities to work with
employers and to become involved in events run or co-ordinated by Inspiring Futures.
ORGANISATIONAL POSITION
The Assistant Regional Director reports to the Area Director. Day to day line management of the work of the
Assistant Regional Director will be delegated to the appropriate Regional Director in whose Region they are
working.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To maintain and develop IF services in existing member schools and to deliver those services as required;
To support the delivery of each school’s career education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) curriculum as
appropriate and required;

To be available to attend parents’ evenings, both in an advisory role and to deliver presentations on IF services in
general and the Futurewise/Inspire schemes in particular;
To administer psychometric profiling sessions, group interpretation and feedback interviews to pupils enrolled in
the Futurewise scheme (full training will be given);
To deliver further guidance interviews with Futurewise/Inspire students as required;
To maintain records of Futurewise enrolments and services to schools and individuals including hours worked and
numbers of interviews conducted in each school;
To deliver group work sessions, seminars and workshops in schools;
Attend Area Meetings and take part in annual review of work sustained and developed in the Region;
To be available, on occasion to travel outside the designated region;
To undertake such other duties commensurate with the post as from time to time directed by the Area Director
TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Hold a relevant qualification in career guidance;
Undertake training in the administration and interpretation of the Morrisby Futurewise Profile or other such
psychometric instruments as may be in use within the organisation;
Maintain up to date knowledge of labour market intelligence, higher education, the learning curriculum and other
aspects of professional development through personal research and reading, and attendance at CPD events as
appropriate;
Participate in an Annual Appraisal with their Area or Regional Director to review performance and identify areas
for personal development.
OUTLINE CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Work is in schools or home based, and there is a requirement to maintain home office facilities with telephone,
facsimile and internet access. It is a requirement that the post holder will have the use of a car for business travel
and for which IF will reimburse running costs through the provision of a motor mileage allowance;
Depending on the amount of activity in the region, the post will be full time or part time according to demand.
Hours of work within the contracted percentage of FTE are flexible but will from time to time entail evening and
weekend commitments, including occasional nights away from home; There will be an opportunity for
Annualised hours but the post holder will need to be regularly available at certain peak times in the year
(generally from September to February);
Salary will be at a point within the pay scale for an Assistant Regional Director at the contracted percentage of
FTE;
Holiday entitlement is a proportion of 6 weeks plus 8 public holidays in accordance with the contracted
percentage of FTE;

Termination of employment is to be by 3 months’ notice on either side;
Full terms and conditions of employment will be as set out in the contract of employment.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications/Professional Associations


Diploma in Careers Guidance/QCGD (for Scotland)Level 6 /SCQF Level 11 Qualification in Careers
Guidance
Membership of the Career Development Institute (CDI) is desirable
Experience







Careers guidance work with young people 14 to 19
Experience with academic students highly advantageous
Experience with less able students is helpful
Delivery of small group works
Delivery of large group programmes is desirable
Experience with on line profiling tools
Use of psychometric tools is desirable
Knowledge



Excellent knowledge of careers guidance profession and standards
Up to date knowledge of guidance theory and practice
Up-to-date knowledge of careers and higher education pathways
Skills

Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
