Information sheet about El Ibrahimi Middle school Algerian Educational system : In Algeria , the educational system is the following: 1/ Primary school : ( 6 – 10 ) All school subjects are taught in Arabic ( maths / technology / history / geography/ civil education / Islamic education . We start learning French in year 3 ( 7 years old ) 2/ Middle school : ( 11 – 14 ) All school subjects are taught in Arabic . In addition , we learn physics / art / English / biology / ICT ). We start learning English in year 1 ( 11 years old ) 3/ Secondary school/ Lycee : ( 15 – 17 ) New subjects are taught : philosophy / foreign languages and literature . School subjects are being taught according to the stream ; literature stream , science stream , foreign languages, science stream and Mathematics stream. Examinations : Pupils in Algeria study 3 terms in a school year ( September to June ). During each term , they have 2 tests ,every month, and by the end of the term , they have exams . to pass to the next year , every pupil must have a minimum average of 10, otherwise , he would be obliged to be kept back down for a year . to move from one level to a higher level , pupils have to pass a national exam . CEP for primary school ( commonly called 5eme ). BEM for middle schools BAC for the secondary school ( Baccalaureate to be able to go to university ) In Algeria , Education is free even in universities . Besides , students at the universities are granted scholarships ) EL Ibrahimi Middle school Head Teacher: Mr Ahmed Bouaicha It is located in Timimoun , a small oasis in the South West of Algeria .1300 km far from the capital city Algiers . It was among the first schools built in the area .In 1976, it became a middle school , before it was a primary school . El Ibrahimi has an area of about 1437 sq km. It has 17 classrooms , 4 dormitories for boys , 2 laboratories , 2 refectories , 2 school yards , 1 stadium , 1 library , 1 room staff , 3 staff lodgings , 1 sick bay and a wonderful museum that has pre – historic bones of animals , stones and tools . El Ibrahimi can hold up to 600 pupils . It is a partial board and a boarding school at once . Time Table: Teachers time table : teachers teach up to 21 h/week ,apart from preparation time . Pupils time table : pupils study up to 34 h/week .
