GRADUATE APPLICATION FEE EXEMPTION REQUEST
In accordance with the regulations set forth by the State University of New York, campuses are required to charge a fee to all
applicants applying for acceptance into a graduate program leading to a Master's, Doctor's or equivalent advanced degree. The fee is
charged for the services provided by the campus in processing the application. Payment of the fee is not contingent on any action or
decision a campus may render on an application; or a subsequent decision by an applicant to withdraw an application. The University
at Albany is unable to acknowledge receipt or begin processing of graduate applications submitted without the required
application fee. The University also does not permit deferral or waiver of the mandatory application fee based on prior or current
financial condition.
Consistent with those application fee requirements set forth by the State University of New York, the Office of Graduate Admissions
will honor requests for exemption from the fee payment for applicants who upon admission qualify for and enroll in the University’s
designated Graduate Tuition Opportunity Program (GTOP). Information regarding GTOP may be located on the University’s website
at http://www.albany.edu/graduate/graduate-tuition-opportunity-program.php. Upon enrollment in qualifying GTOP study at the
University at Albany, full return of application fees associated with admission to the that program will be authorized by the Director of
Graduate Admissions. Completion and submission of this electronic form will initiate that process. Exemption requests must be
received and approved in advance of decision and enrollment to be eligible for return of application fee.
*The approved refund will be applied to the original payment source and it is the recipient’s responsibility to alert
the Office of Graduate Education of any known account changes*
