POSITION DESCRIPTION ______________________________________________________ POSITION TITLE: Access Development Officer (12 month contract) EFT: 0.6 REMUNERATION: $61,500 pro rata (package) REPORTS TO: Access Program Manager ______________________________________________________ PURPOSE OF POSITION: To improve access to arts and cultural events for people with disabilities and provide a range of information, resources and services to people with disabilities, disability organisations and the arts sector in Victoria. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT This position is a part-time contract employee of Arts Access Victoria and is covered by the Arts Access Victoria Enterprise Agreement 2004. Working arrangements will be negotiated with the Access Manager at the time of appointment. LOCATION The position is primarily based in Arts Access Victoria’s offices (currently located at 222 Bank Street South Melbourne). Some intrastate and interstate travel is required. ABOUT ARTS ACCESS VICTORIA Established in 1974, Arts Access Victoria (AAV) has since become the state’s leading arts and disability organisation, dedicated to maximising opportunities for people with a disability to create art, experience art and work in the arts. The organisation achieves this vision through: advocacy; the delivery of arts programs and events for people with a disability; professional development programs for artists with a disability; disability awareness training for arts organisations and distribution of disability access information and advice. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Access Program Manager. The Access Development Officer will have regular contact with the arts and cultural sector including cinemas, film industry, venues, producers and companies, disability organisations, peak bodies and individuals with a disability. The Access Development Officer works closely with the Access Program Manager, Deaf Arts Network and the Artistic Program team. MAJOR TASKS: SERVICES FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITY Information services Provide advice and referral service on accessible venues and services particularly booking accessible tickets, seating, and communication, to people with disability. Provide information in a range of accessible information formats. Source and maintain a calendar of accessible arts events and venue access information. Promote accessible arts events widely including website, e-Bulletins, quarterly member newsletters and e-News. Maintain a register of complaints from people with a disability when facing barriers to access at arts venues and events. Identify trends and seek to creatively resolve individual and systemic issues. Source opportunities for Accessible Arts Events Successfully broker accessible arts events (Auslan, captioning and audio description with producers, artistic directors and venues). Develop and maintain positive relationships with venues and companies, and identify partnership opportunities. Create opportunities for AAV members to shape the programming and access services provided by venues and festivals (e.g. Deaf Arts Network/AAV festival forums). Source and distribute free ticket offers and discount cinema voucher promotions to increase membership and encourage access. SERVICES FOR ARTS INDUSTRY Information Management & Provision Research and identify trends in access initiatives and technologies (e.g. captioning, audiodescription, sign-interpreting, mobile phone applications, tactile exhibits, etc.). Prepare information for publication in the member newsletter, AAV website, Facebook and Twitter. Promote industry leadership in access and disability inclusion to facilitate broad sector development. Access Products & Services As part of a team develop and deliver training and professional development services including Disability Awareness, Accessible Communication and Disability Action Plan training. Provide consultation and advice on a range of access services and disability access planning. Create and source a range of practical art specific resources, toolkits and guidelines for improving access to venues and events. Industry Partnerships and Liaison Work with the Access Program’s partners (arts venues, production companies, festivals and cinemas) to assist them provide access services, and to develop, monitor and implement disability action plans. Work to establish new arts and cultural industry partnerships to increase industry understanding of accessible and inclusive practice. Manage these relationships. Support industry to work collaboratively to increase its capacity to be inclusive. SERVICES FOR DISABILITY ORGANISATIONS Information Provision Provide information about Arts Access Victoria, the Access Program, and a calendar of accessible arts events. Liaise with disability service providers on Membership, cinema tickets, and access services. Source opportunities for project partnerships that improve access provision and participation of people with disability in the arts. STRATEGIC INITIATIVES Support the Access Program Manager to implement strategic initiatives and programs that support the Victorian arts and cultural sector to broaden its audience, particularly audience members with disability. These initiatives might include campaigns, forums, information and training. Help to create and participate in advocacy campaigns to increase access for people with a disability in cultural life. SELECTION CRITERIA: SPECIALIST SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES: A philosophy that demonstrates a commitment to the rights of people with a disability. Demonstrated experience in arts & culture and/or disability access and inclusion. Thorough knowledge and experience of planning for disability inclusion (e.g. disability action planning, resource development). Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training programs, including resource development. Experience in an arts or community context would be highly regarded. Demonstrated competence with information management and communicating to a range of audiences. Ability to plan, prioritise and organise work on an individual basis, to achieve specific and set objectives in the most efficient way possible within a set timeline and in an environment of change and conflicting priorities. A commitment to quality customer service. Ability to think laterally and to instigate and develop partnerships aligned to Arts Access Victoria’s programs and projects. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Ability to relate to people with a disability in a manner sensitive to and respectful of their individual needs. Ability to creatively solve problems through discussion, negotiation and teamwork. Confident to professionally represent the Access Program and Arts Access Victoria in a range of settings, as required. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to present clear and concise reports. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Relevant Tertiary qualifications in the Arts or Community Development coupled with relevant experience. An accredited training qualification and/or extensive experience in training delivery. Demonstrated competence in MS Excel, MS Word, internet and social media. Extensive networks in the arts and cultural sector and sound knowledge of arts and cultural policy and disability networks. Victorian driver’s licence and Police Check required.
