About Us:
Alpha Public Schools is a new network of public charter schools, operating secondary schools
that use blended learning approaches to enhance teaching and personalize students’ learning
experience. Alpha: Blanca Alvarado Middle School, our first charter school, opened in fall of
2012 in the Alum Rock School District of East San Jose. By using technology to empower great
teachers and inspire active learning, Alpha Public Schools will not only change the educational
and economic trajectory of our students’ lives, but also transform their surrounding
communities.

Alpha's mission is to provide students from high-poverty communities an education that
effectively develops their academic skills and competencies of character. As a community of
educators, along with the families of our students, we strive to overcome the achievement gap.
Therefore, we also aim to make sure our students graduate from college so they may become
self-reliant and productive leaders in their communities. Our founding classes will graduate
from college in 2022 and 2023.
Job Description:
As a part-time learning coach at Alpha, you will change the educational and economic trajectory
of students who otherwise would not attend college. You will significantly and directly impact
the success and direction of students. Alpha offers its part-time learning coaches a safe and
engaging work environment, a remarkably supportive staff, and all the resources required for
success. Lastly, it offers a real chance to change students’ lives and to revitalize an underserved
community.
As part of Alpha's unique blended learning model, part-time learning coaches serve an integral
role in ensuring students perform exceptionally well. Alpha part-time learning coaches help
students meet high expectations by working with them individually and in small groups. Parttime learning coaches provide assistance to students on computer programs, tutoring with
homework, and mentorship in the after school program. Coaches must be comfortable with
technology, skilled at tracking student progress, and they must communicate with classroom
teachers and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
Part-time learning coaches are on-site from approximately 3:15-6:00(Monday-Thursday) and
1:00-6:00 (Friday). Please note that preference will be given to applicants who are available for
the times outlined.
Qualifications:
● A sustained commitment to school and workplace that demonstrates an understanding
of responsibility for completing a job.

Ability to motivate and support middle school students in reaching high levels of
academic success.
Previous experience managing and/or teaching groups of middle school-aged students is
preferred.
Experience in visual and performing arts as well as sports is welcomed.
Ability to communicate proactively and effectively with supervisor, teachers,
administrators, fellow staff members, and families.
Basic computer skills, including troubleshooting and ability to communicate about
technical difficulties.
Capacity to analyze and manage student data in order to track and support student
progress.
Conversational Spanish or Vietnamese is preferred.
