International Scholarships Terms and Conditions for 2016 starters

General Terms and Conditions applying to all International Bursaries and Scholarships – see below for Additional
Terms and Conditions relating to specific Scholarships and Bursaries
Definition of ‘International Student’
For the purposes of this document, an ‘international student’ is defined as a self-funded, international-fee-paying
student (Overseas fees).
INTRODUCTION
The University of Lincoln Scholarships and Bursaries for International Students have been established to provide
international students with additional financial support. For eligible students, Scholarship payments take the form of
a reduction in the first year’s tuition fees.
General Terms and Conditions applying to all International Scholarships and Bursaries
1.0
Eligibility
1.1
Bursaries and Scholarships will only be approved for international students who hold an
unconditional offer from the University and will be applied when students become unconditional
firm and have paid their deposit for the relevant academic year in full.
1.2
The University reserves the right to seek repayment of any Bursary or Scholarship payment made in
error and/or in excess of the eligible amount.
1.3
The University of Lincoln’s International Scholarships and Bursaries are not valid in conjunction with
each other; only one scholarship per student per course will be applied.
1.4
There are four types of Scholarship: (i) Undergraduate ‘Science and Arts Scholarships’ for Laboratory
and Studio based courses; (ii) Postgraduate ‘Global Scholarships’; (iii) ‘Academic Excellence
Scholarships’; (iv) ‘International Alumni Scholarships’.
1.5
The deadline for the award of Academic Excellence Scholarships is the 31st July 2016.
1.6
International students must have a student status of ‘Overseas’ on the Student Record System.
1.7
International students who enrol on a postgraduate degree (excluding MPhil & PhD study) but do not
complete the full course and accept an intermediate award, may have their tuition fees reduced on a
pro-rata basis accordingly. In such instances, the Scholarship eligibility will also be retrospectively
reduced on a pro-rata basis.

Debt
2.1
Bursaries and Scholarships will only be applicable to students who have paid their deposit for the
relevant academic year in full.
2.2
Bursaries and Scholarships will not be applicable where a student has breached the terms of his/her
tuition fee payment agreement or where a student has an outstanding academic fee debt to the
University.
Bank Accounts
3.1
Where Bursary or Scholarship eligibility involves payment to the student, monies will be paid directly
into a nominated bank account, as advised by the student.
3.2
Students are responsible for maintaining up to date bank details with the University.
3.3
Bursaries and Scholarships, other than those which take the form of a tuition fee offset, may be paid
into nominated bank accounts in instalments.
3.4
Where bank details have not been received/are inaccurate, and the University has taken reasonable
steps to retrieve updated information from the relevant student, the University reserves the right to
rescind that student’s eligibility to a bursary or scholarship award for the relevant academic year.
Scholarship Payment Deadlines
4.1
The cut-off date for unpaid/unclaimed Bursaries and Scholarships will be:



29th January 2017 for students commencing in January 2016
26th February 2017 for students commencing in February 2016
30th September 2017 for students commencing 2016.
After these dates, save for the case of exceptional circumstances,* student eligibility for a
Scholarship for the academic year will be rescinded. Therefore students must make sure they have
received the Scholarship before this date.

5.1
Information regarding the University’s Bursaries and Scholarships published outside of this
document, both internally and externally, is intended as informative only and does not necessarily
represent the position of the University.
5.2
This document should be referred to by staff and students as the definitive source of information in
respect of University of Lincoln International Student Bursary and Scholarship provision.
*Exceptional circumstance claims must be made in writing by the student to the Director of International, explaining
the circumstance which led to the student failing to carry out the required action that has prevented payment of the
Scholarship.

SCHOLARSHIPS - SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Undergraduate Science and Arts Scholarships (Laboratory and Studio based courses only) of
£1500
2. Global Scholarships for PGT students of £2000
3. Academic Excellence Scholarships of £5000
4. International Alumni Scholarship of £2000
Students must meet both the General and Specific criteria set out in this Terms and Conditions document in order
to be eligible to receive the relevant award.

GLOBAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Terms and conditions
Applicants applying for a postgraduate course and who meet the eligibility criteria set out below, will be awarded
the Global Scholarship. There is no separate application process for Global Scholarships.

Eligibility Criteria
1.1.1 The international student must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information
System.
1.1.2 The International student must be enrolled on a University of Lincoln postgraduate taught
course of study on the University’s student information system.
1.1.3 International students joining the University of Lincoln from a pre-masters course delivered by
Study Group are also eligible for the £2000 Global Scholarship award, subject to meeting all
other eligibility criteria.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS – Terms and Conditions
There are 50, once in a lifetime, Academic Scholarships which are course and country-focused.
2.1
Eligibility Criteria
2.1.1 The International student must have applied for an undergraduate or postgraduate taught
course of study on or before the 31st July 2016. This application deadline can be extended at
the discretion of the Director of International.
2.1.2 The International student must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information
System.
2.1.3 The International student must be enrolled on a qualifying University of Lincoln undergraduate
or postgraduate taught course of study on the University’s student information system as per
the nationality-course combinations listed below.
2.1.4 The International student must be able to evidence s/he is of the qualifying nationality-course
as listed below.

The International student must have met the specific nationality-course eligibility criteria for the
relevant scholarship as set out above.
The International student must not have received a Country-specific Academic Excellence
Scholarship for any other previous study at the University. See below for list of courses and
entry criteria for Academic Excellence Scholarships.
ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIPS - Terms and Conditions
The International Alumni Scholarship is an award for international students who have previously been awarded an
undergraduate, postgraduate taught or postgraduate research degree from the University of Lincoln and who intend
to enrol on a new full-time degree course.
Any applicant who meets the eligibility criteria set out below will automatically be awarded the Alumni Scholarship
at the time of their application. There is no separate application process.
3.1
Eligibility Criteria
3.1.1
The International student must have a student status of Overseas on the Student Information
System.
3.1.2
The International student must have previously successfully completed an undergraduate,
postgraduate taught or postgraduate research course at the University of Lincoln.
3.1.3
The International student must not be entering the University via a partner institution or on a
pathway course such as (but not limited to) International Foundation Year, International Year 1
or pre-masters.
3.1.4
The International student must be enrolled on a full degree course; students enrolling on
courses leading to Higher Education Certificate, Higher Education Diploma, Postgraduate Taught
Certificate or Postgraduate Taught Diploma qualifications will not be eligible.
