Y3/4 Seagulls Summer Term – first half
The Jurassic Coast
In this topic the children will travel along The Jurassic Coast on their learning
journey! This topic is Geography, Science and Geology based! The children will
be learning about the location of the Jurassic Coast and the names of the
counties and towns in this region of the United Kingdom. They will begin to
identify human and physical features of the coast and hills, land-use patterns
and understand how some of these have changed over time. They will begin to
understand why this is a world heritage site and the implications of that status.
The children will be working scientifically on a variety of quick challenges and
longer tasks to learn about rocks. This topic covers the properties and uses of
rocks, the rock family, soils and fossils. In Art we will be researching art in the
local environment and look at how artists and sculptors exhibit art as outdoor
installations.
We are starting a novel study in Literacy and will be reading and
learning from Why the Whales Came by Michael Morpurgo.
