Kidder Memorial Home Obituary: Rodney Raymond Machia Dateline: Highgate Center, Vermont Rodney Raymond Machia, age 79 years, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at his Lamkin St. residence. Born in Highgate on, December 31, 1936, he was the son of the late Raymond and Lucille (Durkee) Machia. He attended Highgate schools and on, July 18, 1964, was married to the former Carole-Ann Cooper who predeceased him on, March 22, 2003. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army and later in the Vermont Army National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion, Green Mountain Post #1 in St. Albans. For thirty years Rodney was associated with the Sheldon Pulp Mill now known as Rock – Tenn. In earlier years he had worked in construction and also operated a dairy farm in Franklin. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1090 in St. Albans. Rodney leaves his son, Greg Machia and wife Jessica of Franklin; his daughter, Kelly Hoague and husband John of Highgate Center; five grandchildren, Adam, Alex, Kayleigh, Dustin M and Dustin H; a brother, Larry Machia and his wife Alice of Franklin; a sister, Patsy Conder and husband Daniel of Burlington; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty Machia of Highgate, Morris St. Pierre of Highgate and Eileen Cooper of Richford. Rodney also leaves behind special friends, Bob Barnes and Myrna Flannigan. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Machia in 1999 and a sister, Pauline Minckler in 2015. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. from St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, 186 Lamkin St., Highgate Center. Father Luke P. Austin will be the celebrant and homilist. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Monday, January 4, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. Father Austin will end the evening with a Vigil Service at 7:45 p.m. and remain after for The Sacrament of Reconciliation.
