With an MSc in Sustainable Development, a Graduate Diploma in Project Management and an MA in English Literature, I have held a number of high-level managerial positions acting at a global level with different humanitarian organizations, including the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), USAID, DANIDA and Islamic Relief Worldwide. I established OCHA’s first ever Gulf Liaison Office, acting as OCHA’s representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). I am currently the Chief of OCHA’s Partnership Coordination Section that brings together OCHA’s global outreach efforts with governments and nongovernmental humanitarian actors. In the past I successfully initiated the first network of Arab humanitarian organizations in the GCC, developed, managed and implemented a wide range of fundraising and partnership strategies, and led advocacy initiatives with a wide range of external partners and donors. Having built up a vast range of skills and experience, my ambition is to play a leading role in initiating closer interaction and relations between all humanitarian partners to maximize the international system’s ability to effectively respond to emergencies. I have a long track record in training and capacity development of individuals and organizations. I led and co-facilitated training events and capacity building initiatives in more than 20 countries. I led several ToTs in the Arab world during the last few years. I am keen to increase the number of Arab humanitarian workers who have the required skills to respond to disasters not only in their countries but also in the whole Middle East region. Sphere is needed now more than ever before in the Arab World and nobody is promoting its standards in this part of the world anymore. Promoting minimum standards, humanitarian principles and the protection of civilians is a duty and a necessity. Proof / indications that the humanitarian sector in the country will accept the focal point I have already played this role for a few years and I have a strong network across the Arab World. I believe my role will be very welcomed by counterpart organizations and trainers.
