Conducted a practical to test the solubility of different salts.
Conducted a practical to identify trends in the periodic table.
Have completed practical tasks to write an aim and the method of a practical.
Gathered results, identified safety protocols, variables (controlled, independent and
dependent) and constructed graphs.
Observed tables and graphs and analysed the information and trends in them.
Have identified and explained observation made in practical tasks in a scientific discussion.
Made valid conclusions based on information gathered in class.
Have an understanding of how to improve the accuracy and reliability of experiments
Task Description: You will sit an in class written task and be expected to demonstrate an
understanding of the following areas.
You will be expected to:
 Write an aim, method, identify variables, construct graphs, answer discussion questions and
make valid conclusions for practical tasks
 Identify safety protocols used in experiments
 Construct an appropriate scientific table and/or graph
 Demonstrate an understanding of how to read and interpret graphs.
 Understand how to improve the accuracy and reliability of experiment
Outcomes Assessed: Students develop knowledge, understanding of and skills in applying the processes of Working Scientifically
Outcomes Assessed:
SC5-7WS

processes, analyses and evaluates data from first-hand investigations and secondary sources to develop evidence-based arguments and
conclusions
SC5-9WS

presents science ideas and evidence for a particular purpose and to a specific audience, using appropriate scientific language, conventions
and representations
Content
WS4 a formulating questions or hypothesis that can be investigated scientifically
b predicting outcomes based on observations and scientific knowledge

WS5.1 Students identify data to be collected for an investigation by: a.describing the purpose of an investigation

WS5.2 Students plan first-hand investigations by: a.planning and selecting appropriate investigation methods, including fieldwork and laboratory
experimentation, to collect reliable data d.specifying the dependent and independent variables for controlled experiments
WS7.1 Students process data and information by: a. selecting and using a variety of methods to organise data and information including diagrams,
tables, models, spreadsheets and databases b. selecting and extracting information from tables, flow diagrams, other texts, audiovisual resources and
graphs, including histograms and column, sector or line graphs
WS7.2 Students analyse data and information by: c. assessing the validity and reliability of first-hand data
WS9 Students communicate by: b. selecting and constructing an appropriate table, type of diagram, table or graph (histogram or sector, column or
line graph) to present information and show relationships clearly and succinctly using digital technologies as appropriate
Please Note:
Failure to complete the task with a sustained and diligent effort or because you are absent may lead
to a zero mark and the issuing of a warning letter explaining that you have not met the course
learning outcomes according to the requirements of the NSW Board of Studies.
Any cheating will also incur penalties.
