Rupp Arena Graduation Ceremonies
Caps and Gowns must be worn for the Rupp Arena Graduations
Caps should be worn on the center/top of your head, not on the back. If you need pins
or clips to hold it on, bring them with you. Tassels go on the right until “it’s official.”
Remember, graduation is a dignified and formal ceremony.
Please hang your gowns now. If you wait until the day, the wrinkles will not come out.
Here are some suggested ways to get the wrinkles out: hang the gown in the bathroom
while you take a shower, steam out the wrinkles, put the gown in the dryer with a damp
washcloth. Do not iron the gown, it will melt.
Formal clothes are to be worn under the gowns. Ladies can wear a dress, skirt, or pants
and a nice top with appropriate dress shoes. Gentleman need to wear ties, collared
shirts, dress pants with dress shoes.
DO NOT WEAR tennis shoes, flip flops, tank tops or jeans/jean shorts.
When you receive your diploma, take it with your left hand and shake hands with the
Board of Education Member with your right hand. Practice this. As you receive your
diploma, the photographer will take your picture. Be sure to pause about five seconds
to allow the picture to be taken.
On the day of your graduation, you should report to Rupp Arena 1 hour and 15 minutes
before the actual graduation. You can park in the Manchester Street lot (former Cox
Street Lot) at Rupp Arena (free with cap and gown).
If you do not attend graduation practice, you will not be
allowed to walk at graduation.
Senior Inspiration:
Some schools have a senior inspiration. This is an optional non-denominational church service
event. Students wear caps and gowns. Check your high school websites for more info.
