By having your horse on the PCP, you can feel secure in knowing that: Your horse is only getting medications when he or she needs them. Your horse is being properly monitored for parasitism. You are doing your part in slowing down the emerging threat of resistance to dewormers. The PCP package includes: Dewormers Ziploc bags for specimen collection Professional guidance for the timing of fecal collection and deworming. OPTIONAL Shipping envelopes (no additional cost). Please specify if needed. If a fecal egg reduction test is needed to look for parasite resistance, there is NO additional charge. Delivery options: You can either call in advance and pick up your package at our office (located off Rt 250 in Penfield) or we can mail, for a small fee, the package to you. We hope you enjoy the program and please let us know if you have any questions. This is dependent on a number of factors- the number of parasites in the pasture, your horse’s immune system, and his or her exposure to resistant parasites. More fecals are done this year to determine how often we will need to deworm your horse. We use ivermectin the first year and finish with a praziquantel product to protect against tapeworms. Cost: $125.00 Kit includes dewormer (Ivermectin and Ivermectin + Praziquantel; additional dewormers, if needed, supplied at no additional charge (Power pack not included)), fecals (additional fecal egg reduction tests at no extra charge), professional guidance and, if needed, mailers. Maintenance Program Once your horse’s program is set up, we put him or her on a yearly maintenance program. Each year we rotate between ivermectin and pyrantel to limit parasite exposure to the drugs as much as possible. In the fall a praziquantel product is given to protect against tapeworms. The reason for continuing to monitor their manure for parasites are many. Your horse’s immune systems change the parasite’s drug resistance patterns change and even pasture loads change from year to year. We want to ensure your horse stays protected. In our experience, almost all the horses we work with are in the low to intermediate category. Cost: Low shedder (2 fecals per year): $85.00 Intermediate shedder (3 fecals per year): $98.00 High shedder: Dependent on the amount of monitoring needed. Kit incudes dewormer (Ivermectin OR pyrantel and Ivermectin + Praziquantel; additional dewormers, if needed, supplied at no additional charge (Power pack not included)), fecals (additional fecal egg reduction tests at no extra charge), professional guidance and, if needed, mailers. To sign up please either call us at: 585-749-9572 or e mail trachtenbergparasiteprog@gmail.com and specify which program you need.
