Trousdale County Schools Weekly Lesson Plan Teacher: Canaan Bowman Pacing Guide Week #: 23 Dates: 2/3 – 2/7 Subject: Geometry Common Core Standard(s) to be taught: (Write the entire standard) CCSS G.C.2 - Identify and describe relationships among inscribed angles, radii, and chords. Include the relationship between central, inscribed, and circumscribed angles; inscribed angles on a diameter are right angles; the radius of a circle is perpendicular to the tangent where the radius intersects the circle. CCSS G.C.3 - Construct the inscribed and circumscribed circles of a triangle, and prove the properties of angles for a quadrilateral inscribed in a circle. CCSS G.C.5 - Derive using similarity the fact that the length of the arc intercepted by an angle is proportional to the radius, and define the radian measure of the angle as the constant of proportionality; derive the formula for the area of a sector. CCSS G.GMD.1 - Give an informal argument for the formulas for the circumference of a circle, area of a circle, volume of a cylinder, pyramid, and cone. Use dissection arguments, Cavalieri’s principle, and informal limit arguments. SPI(s) to be taught: (Write the entire SPI) SPI 3108 1.1 - Give precise mathematical descriptions or definitions of geometric shapes in the plane and space. SPI 3108 4.8 - Solve problems involving area, circumference, are of a sector, and/or arc length of a circle. SPI 3108.4.13 - Identify, analyze and /or use basic properties and theorems of circles to solve problems. Daily practice activity for citing text based evidence in conversation and/or writing: I Can Statements : Student Agenda: I can identify and name minor arcs, major arcs, and Posted daily but NOT included in Lesson Plan semicircles in a circle. I can determine the measure of an arc, arc length, circumference, area, area of a sector, and area of a segment of a circle. I can solve problems involving concentric circles. I can derive the formulas for the circumference, area, and area of a sector of a circle. I can use theorems about tangency, chords, arcs, central angles, and perpendicular bisectors to find measurements in circles. Assessment Strategies (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): Assessment used to determine mastery daily: If a quiz or test is given, include in the Teacher’s Lesson Plan Notebook. Instructional Materials (for Stage 1 teachers ONLY): All instructional materials are to be included in the Teacher’s Lesson Plan Notebook. Instruction: In outline form, describe each day of instruction. Day 1 Bellringer: Revolution of a Wheel Problem Quiz (Vocabulary/Naming Circles and parts of Circles) Circles and Arcs Notes/Guided Practice Problems Independent Practice 10-6 Assignment in Textbook Formative Assessment: Bellringer – assess students’ abilities to apply basic knowledge about circles Day 2 Bellringer – assess students’ prerequisite skills needed for the day’s lesson Bellringer: Practice finding areas of special right triangles Lab – Deriving the Circumference Formula Areas of Circles and Sectors Notes/Guided Practice Independent Practice 10-7 Assignment in Textbook Quiz Observations during guided and independent practice Observations/discussion during lab activity HW 1 Day 3 Bellringer: STP and Mixed Review on p.666 Lab – Deriving the formula for the Area of a Circle/Area of a Sector of a Circle :Practice Problems in WB (10-6 and 10-7) Bellringer – assesses students’ abilities to apply skills learned thus far in the unit Observations/discussion during lab activity Day 4 Day 5 Bellringer: Practice finding measurements in circles Quiz (Circles and Arcs/Areas of Circles and Sectors) Tangent Lines Notes/Guided Practice Independent Practice 12-1 Assignment in Textbook Bellringer: Tangent Lines Recap Chords and Arcs Notes/Guided Practice Independent Practice 12-2 Assignment in Textbook HW Bellringer – assesses students’ abilities to apply skills learned thus far in the unit Quiz Observations during guided and independent practice HW Bellringer – assesses students’ knowledge of concepts taught in previous lesson Observations during guided and independent practice HW Day 6 Day 7 Alternate Instructional Interventions: Provide a specific plan for alternate instructional interventions, or re-teaching. On B days, the end of class will be used to re-address any material with which students show difficulty in understanding. Students will be allowed to re-take quizzes that they scored poorly on using InteractMath to improve their grade and gain more exposure to the content. Instructional technologies to enhance learning: List how each will enhance the effectiveness of the lesson. InteractMath website will be used for students to improve quiz grades and gain more exposure to the content in a one-onone environment while also giving the students more responsibility over their own learning. KUTA Software will be used to practice and assess skill-based problems. PearsonSuccessNet online edition of the textbook will be used to project problems on the board to simplify students seeing the problems worked out by the teacher. 2
