II. Statement of the Job:
The LRSC Nursing Education Coordinator manages the implementation of the nursing
laboratory curriculum in the LRSC on both Lewiston and Portland Campuses. The NEC
coordinates the complex state of the art learning, teaching and research environment. This
involves serving as an expert resource to the faculty regarding integration of nursing clinical
simulation learning throughout the curriculum, advising faculty on standards of clinical nursing
simulation and how to meet those standards, and by teaching in high fidelity simulation
laboratory courses. Works closely with the LRSC Director to identify and meet the needs of
students and faculty. This position collaborates with the LRSC Laboratory Manager to design
processes that increase the availability of laboratories to the students and faculty. This involves
making and coordinating internal and external contacts as well as working with the
undergraduate and graduate coordinators to schedule courses into the lab space. The NLEC will
teach in nursing laboratory courses.
III. Essential Functions:
1. Collaborate with faculty in the development, implementation and evaluation of laboratory
learning experiences, with a special knowledge of high fidelity simulation.
2. Support fundamental, health assessment, advanced nursing skills and graduate level courses
year round by assisting faculty to integrate simulation throughout the curriculum and on both
campuses.
3. Work with the LRSC Manager and the LRSC Director to develop new initiatives for student
support.
4. Work with the LRSC Manager and the LRSC Director to increase use of simulation across
the curriculum.
5. Conduct orientation to the laboratories for students and faculty and mentor faculty in the use
of technology, software and systems that are available for use in their laboratory courses.
6. Receive input from faculty on resource needs for the LRSC and recommend priorities for
purchases.
7. Participate as a member of committees including Bridge, Simulation and others as necessary
to provide information and to receive feedback about clinical and simulation laboratory
experiences/projects.
8. Participate in monitoring and evaluating the functions and outcomes of the LRSC on both
campuses.
9. Develop policies and procedures necessary for the operation of the laboratory facilities and
presents to appropriate authorized bodies for approval.
10. Assist the LRSC Manager with communication and use of the facilities by users outside the nursing
programs.
11. Directs work study students and provides back up management in the absence of the LRSC Manager.
IV. Marginal Functions:
Works with Lab Manager and with the nursing faculty and staff both campuses on ordering
supplies and determining purchasing priorities.
Participates in projects, activities or research as directed by the LRSC Director
V. Supervisory Responsibilities:
Occasional supervision of undergraduate work-study students and with graduate assistants.
Works closely with graduate assistants in assisting with research projects under the direction of
the LRSC Director.
VI. Budget Responsibilities:
Works closely with the Lab Manager in managing lab costs for both Lewiston and Portland.
VII. Public and Professional Activities:
Interfaces with vendors in developing our simulation center
Maintains current knowledge related to clinical simulation and technology

Professional and service organizations as appropriate to the administrative
functions of this position.
IX. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
1. Expert knowledge related to simulation in nursing education.
2. Expertise in teaching fundamental to advanced clinical skills and evidenced based practice.
3. Ability to work on a team with faculty and staff
4. Ability to work responsibly and independently with only general instruction
X. Qualifications:
1. Registered professional nurse (RN) in the State of Maine or eligible for licensure as same
2. Minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing, with Master’s preferred. 3-5 years
appropriate experience
3. Simulation and laboratory instruction experience
4. Clinical nursing teaching knowledge
5. Knowledge of clinical affiliation structure
6. Preference given to experience within higher education.
