In my community litter is a problem. Litter is a problem because it is piling up in our town and affecting the wildlife. The litter is all across the town and in our creeks. It is infecting the wildlife and disrupting the nature’s natural course. Besides looking bad, litter can cause public health hazards.1) Discarded containers make breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other insects. Litter clogs storm drains and causes flooding. Litter affects communities, animals, and the environment. 2) Litter costs the government millions of dollars each year cleaning it up. All businesses have a duty to keep the area around their property clear of litter. It not only helps the environment it keeps the workplace looking professional. Here are some ways businesses can prevent litter; make sure that lids are secure on trash cans and recycling containers, clean up where you work at periodically, make sure everyone does there part, participate in your local business area clean up events, report areas of concern to the city. When people see litter in the streets it encourages them to litter. 3)Ways to reduce litter would be to recycle more and get rid of your trash responsibly Plastic is used because it has many uses. We use plastics all the lime. Lots of toys are made from plastics, so common objects like tools. Plastic is also used in making bubble wrap for shipping or storing items and in fishing gear. Plastics can take hundreds of years to break down, so they may continue to entangle and kill animals year after year. One study found that almost ninety percent of the trash floating on our oceans is plastic. Plastics are used for about everything and are terrible for the environment and the ozone. 1)CVW Litter in Water, Impacts, Sources, Solutions." Longwood University. Clean Virginia Waterways.
