Sharing Capacity to Build Capacity for Quality Graduate Training in Agriculture In African Universities (SHARE) CALL FOR APPLICATIONS MAY 2013 Visit the Intra-ACP SHARE Website: www.africasharecapacity.com About the Programme The Intra-ACP academic mobility scheme supports higher education cooperation between countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP). The scheme aims to promote sustainable development and poverty alleviation by increasing the availability of trained and qualified high-level professional manpower in the ACP countries. The program builds on the African Union’s Mwalimu Nyerere Programme for Africa with funding from the European Commission. Sharing Capacity to Build Capacity for Quality Graduate training in Agriculture in African Universities (SHARE) is one of the Intra-ACP Mobility Scheme supported projects with 12 partner universities in Eastern, Central, Southern and Western Africa (see www.africasharecapacity.com for details). Applications are invited for SHARE mobility scholarships. SHARE is designed to provide resources and opportunities for students' mobility from four regions of Africa, offering support for Masters and Doctoral studies as well as staff exchange among the consortium partners. Who can Apply Scholarships will be offered in the agricultural field of study. A full list of the SHARE Program course offerings is available on the SHARE website: www.africasharecapacity.com The scholarships are open to categories of students, namely; Target Group One (TG1): Students currently enrolled/registered or recommended by a partner University. Applicants in this category must be nationals of the partner country and must have completed Bachelor or Masters study in relevant disciplines from a recognized Higher Education Institution (HEI). Target Group Two (TG2): Applicants with a degree from an HEI in an eligible country outside the partner countries. These are nationals and/or residents of other African countries not represented by the SHARE consortium or who have received a Higher Education degree or equivalent in one of these countries. They must have completed Bachelor or Masters study in relevant disciplines from a recognized Higher Education Institution (HEI). Mobility Types Full degree scholarships for Masters and PhD students Most of the scholarships available are for full degree programmes. The reason for selecting full degree Masters level motilities is that not all of the SHARE Program partner countries are currently permitted, in terms of national legislation, to offer joint degrees. Further arrangements for credit transfer between partner HEIs do not exist. The consortium partners agree that, in cases where joint degrees are legally permitted and where the curriculum can be co-designed to produce coherent and desired learning outcomes achieved, to work towards joint qualifications at the Masters and PhD level between consortium partners. Short-term PhD Scholarships Two short-term scholarships of 12 months each are available for TG2 applicants to the PhD in Agricultural and Rural Innovations at Makerere University. Students registered for the same programme at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania are particularly encouraged to apply. A credit transfer arrangement for this programme between Makerere University and Sokoine University of Agriculture already exists.
