Wilbarger General Hospital Vernon, Texas Job Description Job Title: Perioperative Services Manager (RN) Department: Nursing Job Summary: Performs the primary functions of a professional nurse leader in assessing, planning, directing, and evaluating patient care in an operating room. Manages all supplies and equipment, and supervises all personnel on the unit and promotes team efforts with physicians and personnel of other departments. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Class I. Job Qualifications: A. Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing. Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred. B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Demonstrated ability in nursing practice. Leadership and management abilities and effective oral and written communication skills. C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. BLS and ACLS required. D. Experience: 1. E. Prior work experience: Two years experience as a Registered Nurse in operating room. One year supervisory experience preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may become weak or helpless. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Revised 09/22/2011 A. Plans, assesses, directs, and participates in the delivery of operating room nursing care. B. Assures proper staffing for Surgery, Recover, and Outpatient/Day Surgery. Assures presence of Circulating RN and PACU nurses for all cases. Assigns staff; delegates specific duties and tasks. Assures proper technique and practices are maintained. C. Supervises and oversees sterilization process, and clinical aspects of Central Service department. D. Supervises care of OR suite and equipment to ensure cleanliness, sterility and operational ability of all items. E. Evaluates the quality of nursing care in compliance with the current established Standards of Nursing practice. F. Maintains the required inventory of supplies and equipment in the operating room. G. Facilitates favorable relationships within the operating room, with the Medical Staff, and other hospital departments and seeks input regarding nursing care. H. Assists with the management of Nursing Department functions and supervises the operating room employees. I. Works in conjunction with the Medical/Surgical, Emergency, Dialysis, Home Health and Geropsych Managers to assure quality care throughout the Nursing Department. J. Works with ancillary departments to assure quality of care throughout the hospital. K. Ensures department Policy and Procedures are current and reviewed annually. L. Supervises the Electronic Patient Record used in the department. M. Ensures documented regular staff meetings and in-service education. N. Ensures compliance with all infection control policies and procedures. O. Ensures that licensure and certifications are kept current in accordance with state laws and hospital policy, and appropriate continuing education is attended for CEU requirements. P. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis. B. Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere. C. Interacts with patients, family members, Medical Staff members and other department managers on a continuous basis. D. Utilizes aseptic procedures and maintains aseptic precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials. E. Provides care appropriate for the neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. F. Assesses and interprets data on neonate and the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patient’s status to identify patient’s requirements relative to their age specific needs and provides care needed as stipulated in departmental policy. G. Ensures completion of staff evaluations in a timely manner. H. Reports to work on time, maintains professionalism at all times, and performs duties with minimal supervision.
