Name ______________________________________________________ Class ___________ Date __________________________ Biomes & Ecosystems INTRODUCTION: A biome is a large group of ecosystems that share the same types of biotic and abiotic factors. There are land biomes and aquatic biomes, each with organisms adapted to the conditions characteristic to that particular biome (within their range of tolerance). These conditions are due to the specific climatic zones that each biome can be found in. Imagine you are a visitor to the planet earth and you only have time to explore ONE location. Your job will be to research and present your findings to future intergalactic travelers (your classmates) so that if or when they travel to your location they are able to act and travel in an environmentally friendly fashion. You and your partner will design an advertisement or presentation of your biome in the form of a poster board. Biomes will be chosen for you; follow the requirements listed below in order to build your presentation. PURPOSE: During this project you will be able to summarize the relationship between the climatic zone and the biomes associated with them. You will also discover how living things interact with each other and their abiotic surroundings. As you listen to presentations you will gather information associated with other areas of the world. BIOMES INCLUDE: ~ Tropical Rainforest ~ Grassland ~ Desert ~ Deciduous Forest ~ Tundra ~ Taiga (boreal forest) ~ Marine ~ Freshwater PROJECT REQUIREMENTS Introduction: 1. State the biome’s name and group members’ names. 2. Provide an image that is eye-catching and related to the information in your presentation. Climate: 3. Give a description of the climate in your biome representing the average temperature and precipitation in your biome. Location: 4. Supply a map that highlights where your biome is specifically located on earth. (Black and white images will not work for this.) 5. Create a list of two or more countries that your biome can be located in. Biotic Interactions: 6. Make a list of 5 heterotrophs found in your biome. 7. Make a list of 5 autotrophs found in your biome. 8. Provide a minimum of 2 pictures or drawings. 9. Draw one food chain that cannot be found in any others. Unique Information: 10. Identify THREE factors that makes your biome unique in comparison to others. This can include ways humans rely on certain natural resources, negative human impact, if the biome is uniquely described or set up (such as having layers, tides, biodiversity…etc.).
