2015 King of the River Musky Catch and Release Tournament Rules &
Regulations
Tournament Date: June 20, 2015
1.
This is a one day tournament open to men, women, and youth. Youth participants under the age of
(18) must have their Release of Liability signed by a parent/legal guardian.
Entry Fees: $150 per boat
Voluntary Big Fish Pool: $10 per angler. Winner take all. In the event of a tie – the winning
fish called in first to the Registration site will win the pool. (See item #14). Big Fish entry
fee will be collected at the pre-tournament meeting (see item #7).
4. All Muskies 30” and longer are eligible for entry. Each entry must be accompanied by a
digital photograph on a legible bump board. Photograph must contain a discernible picture
of the fish AND a tournament director distributed token which will be given to each
participant prior to the tournament (see item #7). * Note – bump boards are required for
measurement.
5. Tournament waters consist of the following lake groups:
 Lake Wausau and Rib River
 South of Rothschild Domtar Dam to Mosinee Hydro Dam
 South of Mosinee Hydro dam including entire body of Lake DuBay.
 North of Wausau Hydro dam to Merrill- (Brokaw Stretch)
 South of Lake DuBay Hydro dam to 1st dam south (Stevens Point Flowage)

Participants must select and rank all five (5) choices of lake groups at the time of their
entry, in order to of their preference. No more than 19 boats will be permitted on each lake
group. Awarding of lake groups will be dictated by date and time of entry – No Exceptions.
Pre-Tournament Meeting (mandatory). Friday, June 19, 2015 at 7 pm at Dale’s Weston
Lanes. Participants will meet for rules meeting, and receive photograph tokens. (Note:
Dinner/beverages may be purchased at Dale’s Weston Lanes separately).
Any request for refund of entry fee must be received prior to June 1, 2015.
Allowable fishing methods include casting, jigging, or trolling with artificial lures. No live
bait is allowed.
All USCG and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources boating and fishing regulations
are to be followed. Tournament participants are required to wear a PFD while operating
their large outboards while motoring. All contestants age 14 and under MUST wear a PFD
at all times when on the water by state law. Failure to follow prescribed laws and
regulations which result in citation on tournament day will disqualify the angler in question.
Fish must be hooked and played by one person. Assistance to land a Musky is permitted
All tournament legal 30” or longer muskies must be released immediately after
measurement and photographs. Measurement of the length must be performed and at least
one (1) photograph must be on a bump board along with the tournament token. A fish that
dies must be taken into possession by the angler and will result in disqualification of
that angler from the tournament.
Tournament standings will be determined by total length of legal fish caught. The boat that
catches the highest total (in inches) of fish will be declared the winner. For example, if boat
#1 enters two fish 34” and 39.25” their total is 73.25 inches

Tournament Registrar at (715) 409-6577. Provide your name, your boat #, and the length
of the fish to the nearest quarter inch (downward). Last phone registration will be accepted
at 4:15 p.m. to the Tournament Registrar. Release forms will be provided to each
contestant. Contestants must turn in fully completed release forms along with a digital
picture for each fish registered immediately upon arrival at the post tournament ceremony.
Late release forms will not be accepted and will result in the catch being disqualified – NO
Exceptions.
Prizes include $6,000 (based on full field of boats) in cash, gift cards, and merchandise for
the first 3 places. Junior Division winner receives a musky rod and reel combo and tackle.
The angler who catches the longest musky (over 50”) of the tournament will receive a free
graphite replica, courtesy of Lax Taxidermy and Wausau Area Muskies Inc.
In the event a boat’s position is challenged by another contestant, a written protest must be
provided to the Tournament Committee.
The Tournament Committee is the final judge of all tournament rules. No Exceptions

King of the River Tournament Lake Groups Selection List
The tournament includes five (5) different lake groups in the Wausau area. These lake
groups include:
 Lake Wausau and Rib River
 Below Rothschild Domtar Dam to Mosinee Hydro Dam
 South of Mosinee Hydro dam including entire body of Lake
DuBay
 North of Wausau Hydro dam to Merrill (Brokaw stretch)
 South of Dubay dam to 1st dam South (Stevens Point
flowage)
When you register for the tournament (see entry form), you will be asked to select/rank
the five (5) lake groups in order of preference. Due to DNR regulations, no more than
nineteen (19) tournament boats will be awarded to each lake group. Awarding of lake
groups will be done on a “first come-first served” basis in order of entries received on a
website. A document will be posted and updated periodically on the website to show lake
groups awarded by entry.
There will be no “tournament take-off” as different lake groups exist. Fishing hours will be
from 6 AM to 4 PM and the honor system will be used for start and end times. Please show
good sportsmanship and adhere to start and end times. You may launch your boat at any
time you wish on tournament day but tournament fishing hours do not start until 6 AM.
Official tournament time synchronization will take place at the pre-tournament meeting
(mandatory attendance) on Friday evening, June 19th, at 7 PM at Dale’s Weston Lanes.

I agree, for myself and if applicable – the members of my family, to the following in
exchange for participating in the King of the River Musky Tournament, which has
been organized by Wausau Area Chapter of Muskies Inc., Chapter 62.

in writing or orally by Wausau Area Muskies Inc., its directors, supervisors, and/or tournament
organizers in regard to the King of the River Musky Tournament.
I understand that mine and my family’s time and participation at the King of the River Musky
Tournament may be hazardous to myself and/or my family members. I hereby expressly and
specifically assume the risk of injury or harm in these activities and release Wausau Area Muskies Inc.
from any and all liability for injury, illness, loss, and death or property damage resulting rom my
participation or that of my family.
I agree to hold indemnify and hold harmless Wausau Area Muskies Inc., its affiliates, and its respective
officers, agents, representatives, and employees from any and all claims, demands, losses, and causes of
action, lawsuits, damages, and judgments. This includes all attorney fees and costs arising out of myself
and/or my family’s participation in the King of the River Musky Tournament.
In the event of damages caused by my negligent actions and/or those caused by my family, I agree to
pay all damages resulting from my and/or my family members negligent, reckless, or willful actions
should they be directly contrary to instructions from Wausau Area Muskies Inc.
Any equitable or legal claims resulting from my participation in the above and/or that of my family
members will be adjudicated within the laws of the State of Wisconsin.
I have read this release and understand its contents. I further understand that by
signing this release, I may surrender certain legal rights. If under age 18, a parent or
legal guardian must sign the release.
