 Industrialization: Examining the rise of cities at the turn of the century with an emphasis on the
rise of Big Business
2nd Nine Weeks:
 Industrialization: Examining the rise of cities at the turn of the century with an emphasis on the
following:
o Immigration and Urbanization
o The Progressive Movement
 Imperialism: Understanding how the United States became a world power by examining
o The Spanish American War
o United States foreign policies
 World War I: Determining the causes and effects of WWI
3rd Nine Weeks:
 The Roaring Twenties, Great Depression and The New Deal
o Examining the social and economic changes in the 1920s including:
 Advances in technology
 Prohibition and the Great Migration
 Art, literature, and music including the Harlem Renaissance
 Causes and effects of the Great Depression
 Key features of New Deal
 Examine the major events of WWII. We will investigate:
o The causes of the war with an emphasis on Hitler's rise to power
o Major battles and turning points of the war
o The reasons the United States went to war
4th Nine Weeks:
 The Cold War: End of World War II and the rebuilding efforts in Europe with an emphasis on
the following:
o Rise of communism in Eastern Europe
o The Korean War
o Cuban Missile Crisis
o Vietnam War
 Civil Rights Movement: Examining the causes, effects and impacts as well as the extent to which
its goals have been achieved
 Women's Movement: Evaluate the changing role of women in the post - WWII America
 Globalization: Examine foreign policy, immigration, global environment, and other emerging
issues.
