Most people would agree that rest and recreation are as important as work. Different people choose different ways of spending their holidays. The most popular among them is travelling.
It’s difficult to imagine modem life without travelling as the technological progress of the previous century has allowed people to cover long distances in no time.
People travel to see other countries and continents, modem cities and the ruins of ancient towns, to enjoy picturesque places or just for a change of scene. It is always interesting to discover new things and other ways of life, to meet different people, taste different food, examine various architectural styles, visit museums and picture galleries.
Travelling is a remarkable key to understanding other cultures, a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the world we live in.
Nowadays people can travel in different ways. They can enjoy the comfort and speed of superb air -liners as well as the conveniences of modem comfortable trains and co aches or the luxury of a sea voyage. People choose this or that way of travelling according to their likings and financial possibilities.
Of course, travelling by air is most convenient as in a short time you reach the place of your destination well -rested and well-fed. Naturally it is the most expensive method of travelling too. Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages as well. Many people are convinced that with a train you have speed, comfort and pleasure combined. Most trains nowadays have very comfortable seats as well as sleeping carriages and dining cars, which make even the longest journey enjoyable. Sea voyages these days have become popular again mainly as pleasure trips.
I personally prefer travelling by car. There ar e several reasons for it. First of all you don’t need to reserve your tickets. Then you can go as slowly or as fast as you wish, stop whenever you choose and stay at any place you choose as long as you like. And, of course, you see much more of the countryside than you do travelling by plane or even by train.
Every summer our family makes a trip by car to Russia to visit my grandparents. I enjoy these trips greatly.
The last long-distance journey I have made was two years ago when I went by plane to Voronez h to visit my relatives.
I went there with my parents, of course. We booked our tickets in advance and on the day of the departure we arrived at the airport an hour and a half before the flight. We went to the check -in desk and soon we were invited to get on board the plane, which took off without delay and in less than two hours we safely landed at the Voronezh airport. At first I was a bit scared when the plane was taking off, but the air hostess brought drinks and food and I felt quite comfortable during the flight. Our journey went on smoothly and I liked it very much.
So far I haven’t travelled much, of course. But I hope that in future I’ll have more opportunities for travelling and seeing the world’s most famous and beautiful places.

Travelling nowadays has become an essential part of modem life. Millions of people all over the world travel about their own countries and to foreign lands as well. They are eager to see and explore new places and learn more about different ways of life.
Travelling has become a highly organized business in many countries. There are cars and buses and splendid roads, express trains, huge ships and jet air-liners. Of course, travelling by air is the fastest and most convenient way of getting from one place to another. Flying is a thrilling thing in itself as it saves time. But it is the most expensive means too. Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages as well. On a train you enjoy the comfort and pleasure of relaxation. Most long distance trains are express through trains with convenient timetables of departures and arrivals.
Travelling by train in the daytime may seem tiring to some people while others enjoy talking to their fellow passengers or just watching the changing landscape through the window. You don’t need to take much food with you as you can have a cup of tea or coffee without leaving your compartment. I like night journeys. Sleeping on board the train seems soothing and comforting to me.
I haven’t travelled much yet and haven’t gone on long journeys either, but I’m fond of travelling and have already been to a few places. Last summer I made an exciting trip to Vitebsk to Slavyansky Bazar. I went there with my friend. Since the trip hadn’t been planned, we had to get tickets righ t before the departure. Luckily we didn’t queue for a long time and managed to buy two tickets in a sleeping carriage, both for the upper birth. And we didn’t mind it at all. We were happy we hadn’t missed the train and even had enough time to buy a packet of biscuits and a Coke at the station buffet. We didn’t have a return ticket, so as soon as we arrived at the Vitebsk station we bought the tickets back home not to bother about them and enjoy the concerts we came to see.
Our journey back was just as comfortable. It was nice to see again the clean and neat compartments and have a good rest in the sleeping carriage. It was an exciting experience with lots of impressions to share.
I am looking forward to a day when I can afford extensive travelling to far -away countries and about Belarus as well where there are a lot of unique and beautiful places to see.
