TEXAS MONTHLY TO LAUNCH NEW POLITICAL DEBATE COLUMN Longtime Contributor Michael Ennis to Write Regular Commentary Former Texas Public Policy Foundation Vice President Joshua Treviño Named Writer-at-Large July 31, 2012 –Austin, Texas–Texas Monthly today announced that Joshua Treviño will be joining the staff as a writer-at-large to collaborate with current writer-at-large and longtime contributor Michael Ennis on a new monthly feature dedicated to exploring issues of cultural and political importance through reasoned debate. Treviño is the former Vice President of Communications for the Texas Public Policy Foundation and one of the founders of the prominent conservative blog RedState. Beginning in September, he and Ennis will alternate writing a column for the print magazine from opposing political viewpoints. They’ll also respond to each other’s columns at texasmonthly.com. “There’s nothing I like better than listening to a well-informed, well-argued political debate between two whipsmart writers with very different views,” said Texas Monthly editor Jake Silverstein. “And that’s exactly what Michael and Josh will be providing every month. Get your popcorn ready.” Ennis grew up in Dallas and graduated with a degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. He did graduate study and taught art history at the University of Texas at Austin and received a John D. Rockefeller III Foundation Fellowship for work in museum education. He has written for Esquire and Architectural Digest and won national awards for his art and architecture criticism, business writing, and political commentary. He is the author of the international best-selling historical novels Byzantium and Duchess of Milan. His new thriller, The Malice of Fortune, will be published by Doubleday in September. It has received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews. A Texas native with deep roots in south Texas, Treviño is a political commentator and consultant who frequently appears on MSNBC and Fox News. He conceived and co-founded the blog RedState.org in 2004 and was a speechwriter for the Secretary of Health and Human Services during the George W. Bush administration. Before joining the TPPF, Treviño was a 2006 Lincoln Fellow with the Claremont Institute and a founder and president of Treviño Strategies and Media in Sacramento, California. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from Furman University. The September issue of Texas Monthly will be on newsstands and online beginning August 22. Texas Monthly has a monthly readership of over 2.4 million, reaching one out of every eight Texas adults.
