Session 1: The beginning of a drug dealer Aim of session: To determine the young people's attitudes towards drug dealing and encourage a discussion of why drug dealing occurs and their opinions around it. You will need: Survey 1 - attitudes to drug dealing Drug dealing work pack : Defining a drug dealer and reasons for dealing Plan: 1. Introduce the aims and outline the programme for the next 6 weeks. Create ground rules. 2. Produce survey 1 to the young people; prompt them to answer all questions honestly as this is a measurement of their attitude to their view on their actions to the offence committed. Ensure they understand the questions asked but refrain from too much discussion as your views could affect their answers given, thus want them to answer from their own views rather than the ideal or what we would perceive as right or what we want to see. 3. Defining a drug dealer work sheet should allow individuals to express their own views of what they believe a drug dealer is. 4. Reasons for drug dealing work sheet should be filled out by student identifying the reasons why drug dealing begins and continues. Once completed give feedback and generate discussion on their chosen points. Session 2 - Consequences of selling drugs Aim of session: To highlight the life of a drug dealing as to whether it is worth it and if the gains outweigh the losses, while also highlighting the dangers and pitfalls in drug dealing on themselves and those around them. You will need: Survey 1 - attitudes to drug dealing USB with one day video clips 4 and 7 Drug dealing work pack: Lifestyle of a drug dealer and consequences of drug dealing Plan: 1. Introduce what is going to be done in the session and reminder of ground rules. 2. Watch 'One day' video clips where the first one highlights the complications and repercussions of drug dealing, while also showing the effects it has on the close ones and the community. 3. Life style of a drug dealer work sheet, which should allow the student to reflect on themselves and in general the gains and losses of drug dealing for the dealer. Use guide discussion points to provoke discussion and to allow the student to become open about what the work sheet is asking them. 4. Consequences of drug dealing work sheet should allow the student to identify, while highlighting the consequences that drug dealing has on themselves, ones who are close to them and the community. Session 3 - The effects of selling drugs Aim of session: To Highlight how drugs effect people, why it is illegal and the law surrounding being a drug dealer You will need: Drug dealing work pack: Drugs classes, effects and the law Images of the effect that long term drug taking has on a person Drug cards Plan: 1. Introduce what the session will involve and a reminder of the ground rules. 2. Firstly the subject is on the individual being able to identify which drugs are illegal. 3. The student are then given some pictures to evaluate of individuals which have been taking drugs from a number of years and guessing which drug that person may have been addicted to. 4. Now they will be given drug cards which are informative about drugs, effects and class, also the sentence for dealing them which they themselves have to put back together. Aim of session: To generate a discussion drugs and drug dealing, allowing them to express themselves on statements given. This session will also get them to highlight characteristics of drug dealers good and bad which will be used in the following session. You will need: Statement cards Drug dealing work pack: Characteristics of a drug dealer Plan: 1. Introduce what the session will involve and a reminder of the ground rules. 2. The drug statement cards are a set of cards with quotes that generate discussion; this allows the individual a session where they can talk freely and openly about their opinions on particular quotes. 3. The characteristics of a drug dealer work sheet should be worked on together to think of as many possible characteristics that drug dealers generally have. This will be used in the next session. Session 5 - Working vs dealing Aim of session: To look into the differences of an individual who is working and one that is dealing, through writing job descriptions. This session will also allow the individual to think of reasons why not to become a dealer, which could also be bought into a discussion. You will need: Drug dealing work pack: Job descriptions and beyond dealing Examples of job descriptions Plan: 1. Introduce what the session will involve and a reminder of the ground rules. 2. The individual should try to write two job descriptions, one for a working individual and one for a drug dealer which should then be compared after completing and possibly a discussion on how they view these two differences. 3. The individual should try to write down up to 10 reasons why people should not become drug dealers. This can be from the differences between working and dealers to the effects on the community and themselves. Session 6 – Let skills pay the bills Aim of session: To look into the financial side of drug dealing and seeing if it is beneficial, while looking into types of jobs which drug dealers may have the skills for or be good at. You will need: Drug dealing work pack: Wages of a drug dealer, cost of dealing, job types and behaviour change Video clip of a boy earning £20,000 a day Survey and feedback form Plan: 1. Introduce what the session will involve and a reminder of the ground rules. 2. To watch a video clip of a school boy who earns £20,000 a day from drug dealing, which highlights that if he put this energy into a legitimate sources then these dealers would be good at business. 3. This work sheet will allow the individual to work out some figures of what they may have earned and what it actually works out to be. Then they can be presented with a working out that has already been done. 4. How to apply skills to the working world will allow the individual to assess what skills/characteristics that they may have worked on in session 4 to what kind of jobs. 5. Behaviour change will allow the individual to reflect on their drug dealing habits. 6. A finishing survey and feedback will then need to be completed.
