LAS Small Grants Program Fall 2013 LAS Small Grants Program: The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences again offers its small grants program designed to provide modest funding in support of the research or scholarly activities of humanities faculty who have limited opportunity for securing external research funding. Again this year, there will be two program deadlines – one deadline this fall and one early in the spring. The purpose of these grants is to augment the research capacity of tenured and tenure track faculty and lecturers with multiple year appointments. Examples of the types of funding requests that will be considered include travel to present scholarly efforts or to conduct scholarly work, the purchase of small equipment or supplies, and hiring of undergraduates to assist in research activities. The maximum request for each proposal is $1,250 for conference travel or $1,750 for activities that directly support research – please request only one category. The request should be only for research or conference support, and it should be clear how the net expense will be divided between the LAS College and other sources. For full consideration, fall requests should be received by October 4, 2013. At that point all proposals will be evaluated. Depending on the timing of travel or other needs, unfunded fall proposals may be carried over for consideration in the spring submission. To enable planning, the deadline for next spring is tentatively set for February 1, 2014, but the official date will be announced later. Each faculty member will be limited to only one funded proposal per fiscal year. The funds supporting both the fall and spring submissions are FY14 funds only, so all monies awarded from these submissions must be expended by June, 2014. Proposals must be limited to one page (see attached form) and must be approved by the chair of your department. Applications will be reviewed in the LAS College office, so the turnaround time should be short. The proposals will be primarily judged on their potential for enhancing the scholarly activity of the faculty member. Submit the applications as an email attachment by October 4, 2013, to: Martin Spalding Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Phone: 294-4851 Email: mspaldin@iastate.edu LAS Small Grants Application Name: Position: Department: Date: How will the requested funding be used?
