Science 10: Biome Poster Project Due Date: _______________________________________________ Your task: In this culminating activity of the “Ecosystems” unit of science 10, you will demonstrate the relationships between ecological balance and the sustainability of life in a chosen biome. You are to choose one of the five biomes given by Ms. Roberts (i.e. Tundra, Boreal Forest, Temperate Deciduous Forest, temperate rainforest or Grassland). You will then work through the following instructions, and hand in your poster with the required written portions for evaluation. You will create: A colourful and complete poster that shows the following: Criteria and Instructions: A map to show the location of the biome in the world An example climatograph (using blue for precipitation and red for temperature) Your poster must include an example with image(s) to represent each of the following: a) A producer Include a summary: An adaptation the producer has to survive in its environment c) A primary consumer Include a summary: An adaptation the consumer has to survive in its environment, what it eats, common predators d) A secondary consumer or Top Predator Include a summary: An adaptation the producer has to survive in its environment, what it eats f) Two abiotic factors important to the habitat of these organisms and their community. Be specific. Does this relate to adaptations that the organisms have? g) An endangered species in the biome Include a summary: What is causing the challenge to this organism’s existance h) An introduced/ invasive species in the biome which has upset the balance Include a summary: History and impact. Where did the organism originate? How is the organism impacting the biome? Draw and attach a labelled food web for your biome. Include at least four trophic levels and at least one herbivore, one omnivore, a top carnivore, and a decomposer. This should be in full colour and of high quality. Identify and include information about an environmental problem created by humans that disrupts either the carbon cycle or the nitrogen cycle in the biome (ie: abundant industry causing increase CO2 levels in the atmosphere) Summarize the problems created. Propose a course of action. Be sure to take into account both human and environmental needs.
