Aim 到達目標 On completion of this topic students should be able to Objectives/ write and pronounce key school-related vocabulary in Japanese. Outcomes Talk about the similarities and differences between schools in Japan and Ireland. 活動の概要、流れ An overview of the Japanese Education System. Overview The similarities and differences between it and the Irish system. Introduction of school-related vocabulary in Japanese. 教授法、教え方のポ I begin this activity with a table drawn on the white board. The table includes イント about 10 key words relating to school(e.g. 先生、生徒、学校、年生、高 Teaching Approach 校、小学校、中学校、部活、etc). I add a romaji, hiragana, and kanji column. I isolate 1 or 2 key phrases and use pairwork to practice these short phrases such as 何年生ですか。高校一年生です。Before I talk in detail about schools in Japan, I ask the students to fill out a form on differences and similarities. I present them with a number of facts about Japanese schools and they have to write in the equivalent facts relating to Irish schools. As I have a number of newcomer students in my classes, I ask them to fill out facts relating to their countries as well. Then I hand out some information about education in Japan. Finally, I show a number of youtube clips of Sports and Culture Days in various highschools in Japan. 伸ばす能力 listening, writing and reading skills, critical and analytical skills, Key Skills pronunciation, communicative skills, etc. 1. Finally, I show a number of youtube clips of Sports and Culture Days in various highschools in Japan. 備考 I found that students were interested in this topic and there were Notes quite a few points that they wanted to discuss. Using the youtube clips held their attention as Japanese schools really put on a great show for their Sports and Culture Days. Last year, I linked up with a school in Kanazawa and students exchanged cards throughout the year. They were able to include some of the phrases they had learnt in this activity in their introductory cards.
