General Membership Meeting Minutes
Back-to-School Night
Thursday, September 12, 2013



President Jennifer Chance called the meeting to order.
Brownie Troop 5109 presented the Colors.
Jennifer Chance announced the PTA Board members and reviewed the following topics:
 PTA website, www.springerpta.com
 Meetings are typically the 3rd Tuesday of each month. The next meeting will be on Tuesday,
November 12th. We will be recognizing the Reflections participants.
 We are still looking for a Henrico County Council representative chair. Please contact Jennifer
if you are interested.
 We are also looking for a planning committee for the Spring Carnival. Please contact Janann
Hossaini if you are interested in assisting.
 Please have completed PTA forms packet returned by Friday, September 13th.
 Please support the PTA and become a member. Our goal is 100% membership.
 New One Stop Form: Allows parents to pay at the beginning of the year for yearbook, Springer
Fund, and membership with one check.

 Some of our PTA Programs and Activities: educational assemblies, Kids Club, evening
programs/monthly PTA meetings, Somethin’ Pumpkin, Spring Carnival, Reflections Watch
D.O.G.S
 Currently accepting entries to Reflections contest. Submission deadline is October 16th.
 Watch D.O.G.S kickoff on September 26th at 7:20 a.m.
 PTA fundraising: Springer Fund, monthly spirit nights, Papa John’s Dollars for Dough, link
Kroger, Martin’s and/or Food Lion cards to SPES PTA, Target Take Charge of Education
program, Original Works, Spirit Wear. Last year’s fundraising made it possible to spend nearly
$80 per student!
 Jenny Waggoner, Treasurer, discussed the 2012-2013 audit and the 2013-2014 proposed
budget. There was a motion and second to vote on the audit. There was a vote and the 20122013 audit was approved and will stand as written. There was a motion and a second to vote

 Please vote on this year’s legislative items online. The PTA unit number is required when
voting. PTA membership cards will be distributed with an explanation of the voting process.
The deadline for voting is October 31st.
 The business portion of the meeting was adjourned.

Mrs. Jones, Principal, covered the following topics:
 Thanked PTA for their support and encouraged parents to join the PTA.
 Welcoming new Springer families on September 24th in cafeteria for principal’s breakfast at
8:00am.
 Discussed accomplishments for the year and student achievements (SOL’s, MAPS, etc.)
 Encouraged parents to review bus safety rules. Reminders for car riders – please do not drop
off before 7:20 a.m. and be sure to display sign in vehicle.
 Introduced Roo’s Readers reading program.
 We are still a waiver school and will continue to move forward with project based learning
(SPES is one of eleven schools in Henrico County).
 Please note the rules for visitors and volunteers. Do not leave your car in the loop while going
inside.
 Looking forward to a year of “COOKING UP SUCCESS AT THE PARK”!
