RECOMMENDED ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION FOR UltraFuelFlex™ BRAIDED METAL CONNECTOR
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 SECTION INCLUDES
A. UltraFuelFlex braided metal connector(s) intended for use in piping systems carrying compressecd and combustible gases such as:
liquefied petroleum gases, manufactured and natural fuel gases.
Provide appropriate model UltraFuel Flex braided metal connector(s) to connect to mating piping:
a. Model UFFMP-UL 150# carbon steel plate flanges
b. Model UFFMN-UL carbon steel male NPT ends
c. Model UFFWN-UL carbon steel pipe weld ends
d. Model UFFRR-UL 150 # RF forged steel flanges
e. Model UFFRY-UL 150# RF forged steel fixed flange one end X 150# forged steel lapp joint flange floating on schedule 40
stub end the other end.
1.02 MANUFACTURER
A. UltraFuelFlex braided metal connector shall be manufactured by Flex-Hose Co. or pre-approved equal.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 Braided metal connector(s) for fuel gas service
A. Assemblies shall have a nominal inside diameter of not less than 1”, or greater than 4”
B. The hose shall be 321/304L annular corrugated stainless steel (manufactured in the USA).
C. The braid shall be 304 stainless steel (manufactured in the USA).
D. The stainless steel ring ferrule or band shall be of not less than 0.048” thick material.
E. The hose, braid and ferrule shall be integrally seal-welded using a 100% circumferential TIG weld.
F. The hose shall have the first “lip” removed (on flanged models) to insure there are no sharp edges.
G. All end fittings shall be must be attached using 100% circumferential weld.
H. Assemblies shall be used at pressures not exceeding 175 PSIG (1.20 Mpa) and temperatures not greater than 70°F (21°C) nor lower
than minus 40°F (minus 40°C).
I. The rated working pressure of the hose must have a 5:1 safety factor.
J. Each braided metal fuel connector is to be individually leak tested by the manufacturer using hydrostatic pressure to a minimum of
262 PSI.
K. Model UFFMP shall be supplied with flat-face carbon steel plate flanges with drilling and outside diameter to 150# ANSI.
L. Model UFFMN shall be supplied with carbon steel schedule 40 (minimum) male NPT ends.
M. Model UFFWN shall be supplied with carbon steel schedule 40 (minimum) pipe weld ends.
N. Model UFFRR shall be supplied with 150# ANSI RF forged steel fixed flanges both ends.
O. Model UFFRY shall be supplied with 150# ANSI RF forged steel fixed flange on one end, with a 150# ANSI forged steel lap joint
flange floating on a schedule 40 (minimum) type “A” stub end the other end.
P. Flanged end fuel connectors shall be prepared for shipment using cut-to-length spacers, securely positioned between the flanges to
prevent axial compression damage during shipment and to maintain the manufactured length. (Spacers are to be removed, prior to
startup.)
Q. They shall be third party tested and listed by UL (Underwriter’s Laboratories) in accordance with UL-536 for use with flammable
gases.
R. All items provided shall be individual marked in accordance with UL-536 requirements
2.02 WARRANTY
UltraFuelFlex model braided metal connector(s) must have a 3-year full product replacement warranty when installed in accordance
with all specifications and installation instructions as described by Flex-Hose Co.
